    Expired Supplement

I ordered a supplement online and when I received it, it had an expiration date of 04/02. I called the company and they said that it was expired, but the product had been retested at a lab and is still potent and safe and offered a copy of the report. Do you think the products are safe?

    Thanks

Depends on what the product was..

Protein and Creatine will last another 6 months..

Bottom line.. if they are selling you expired stuff and not disclosing that right at the order time.. find another place to buy as it does cut down on your shelf life.

Should be safe, the thing that comes to mind for me is potency. If they are not telling you though I think thats illegal.

    Could be.

But considering the sheer # of places selling supplements and a good # of them being honest and selling good product, illegal or not, take your business elsewhere.

If it was just a mistake.. fine..

But from your post, it was no mistake.. It was them selling expired products, tested, and copies of the report being offered to you.

If they did not disclose on the original sale that the product was expired and re-tested, that is just shady business.

I expect when I go to a grocery store, the milk I'm buying is fresh and is not expired... it's just assumed that supplements are not expired unless specifically stated "you are buying expired but tested products."

Hopefully you paid a lot less for this.. since new products have a longer shelf life and the one you got doesn't.. so you should be paying a discounted and "used" price.

They didn't offer the info upfront or even in the package when it arrived. I had to call for an explanation. They were buy one get one free. This is the first time I have ordered from this company so I didn't know what to expect. You would think that if the went through the effort to get it tested they would include a copy of this report when they ship it at least

    New, un-opened, non-expired, fresh product.

That is what 99% of the population would expect when purchasing a supplement online.

RnR seriously I believe it should have been stated in the clear, clearance product expired - tested good etc

So far as I know potency goes down in most supplements and even drugs with age, not neccessarily that it will be 'bad' for you.

    RnRGirl,

Supplement Direct stands behind all Supplement Direct brand products and tests all products at independent labs prior to selling them. As a matter of fact for this product it is tested three times in all. Since we do have the capability to encapsulate and package this product we contract other companies to do that for us. In this case we purchased the raw material and have it tested. Upon a positive test result from our independent lab San Rafael Chemical Services we then ship the raw material to the contract manufacturer. Upon completion of the product we are notified by the contrct manufacturer that is done and we ask them to randomly send another bottle to a independent lab for another test to make sure the product was made to label claim. San Rafael Chemical Services again in this instance. Upon completion by SRCS we are notified of the test and if positive we ask the contract manufacturer to ship the product to our warehouse. You can review all current lab tests on our site at Sports supplements at great prices, whey protein, creatine, brand names.

It should be noted that we are the only Sports Nutrition Company in the industry we are aware of that provides this level of quality and transparency and would like to see others in our industry adhere to these same strict guidelines. We've feel so strongly about the quality of products that we started Supplement Police - Home.

Please feel free to get involved with this effort and make your opinions known.

The supplement in question Yohimbine HCL was made for Supplement Direct as explained, but the contract manufacturer printed a short dated expiration date on the label. In stead of relabelling the product, we decided it would be far less expensive to have the product retested after the expiration date listed on the product, which we did and it was the same as it was originally. We did state this on the site in the description at the time and feel very comfortable with our decision to sell this product.
