    Melatonin

Ok, so the past few nights I haven't been able to fall asleep. I have no idea why, as I have been lifting AND working my butt of at my job..sweating, lifting, even being out in the sun. All of which should make me tired...Also of note, I am on a bit of a "cut"...more of just cleaner eating, but I am trying to cut down some body fat...I was wondering if using melatonin to aid in sleep would hurt my cut, i.e. lower my metabolism?? I just need some sleep!

It should not affect metabolism that I know of, serotinin is actually responsible for melatonin production. The advice is generally to use the least amount as effective, as there are no truly long term studies on melatonin. I may give it a shot myself sometime.

Serotonin unfortunately can't pass the blood-brain barrier, so it can't be supplementaized directly.

i take 9mg of melatonin right before i go to bed.It works wonders. However, I have to caution you on one particular item:dosage. Don't take too much. U have to experiment and see what works best for you.One time I tried too much and i was totally shot the next day. It seemed like I was sleepwalking. groggy as hell didn't even feel like working out and that's the worst possible feeling besides being sick(in terms of bodybuilding)

I take 3 mg at night, didnt have trouble going to sleep, just waking up frequently and not being able to go back to sleep, still wake up (a girl's gotta pee... ya know?) but crash right back out and dont feel like I was up all night.

9mg?!?!?!!! Holy crap dude, that would have me knocked out for days! I'd never make it to the gym in the morning.

Go check out http://www.melatonin.com theres LOTS of usefull info there, including how to determine dosage and where to start, as well as how to find the best deal for you $$$... you can buy it there too, but I got mine at eckerds.

Taking an super (9mg) increased dose of melatonin does not increase the effectiveness of the supplement. Melatonin simply promotes the brains production of it's naturally occurring Hormone through the pineal gland. Check out this link for all the melatonin info you need. Q&A about Melatonin
