    Post Whey Protein

    I have three questions:

    1. I just started taking a whey protein supplement. Are there any long-term negative side effects or health hazards with daily consumption?

    2. What is the difference between whey protein isolate and why protein concentrate?

    3. What are the best protein powder supplements?

    Thanks.

*** NO, at least none that are known. It's the same as drinking milk, whey is a by product of milk.

    2. What is the difference between whey protein isolate and why protein concentrate?

*** Whey Protein Isolate powders go through the best filtering process to remove fat and carbohydrates. In general, these powders will contain a higher percentage of protein compared to Whey Protein Concentrate - generally around 90% protein.

    3. What are the best protein powder supplements?

*** One that is highest in whey protein isolate!

Hey Prince, what does biological value mean when referring to protein? Does it mean the higher the value the faster the protein is absorbed?

Proteins of high biological value are classified as complete proteins. This means that they contain all 8 of the essential amino acids in adequate quantity necessary for growth, development and maintenance of tissue.

AMINO ACIDS are the "building Blocks" of the body. Besides building cells and repairing tissue, they form antibodies to combat invading bacteria & viruses; they are part of the enzyme & hormonal system; they build nucleoproteins (RNA & DNA); they carry oxygen throughout the body and participate in muscle activity. When protein is broken down by digestion the result is 22 known amino acids. Eight are essential (cannot be manufactured by the body) the rest are non-essential ( can be manufactured by the body with proper nutrition).

Essential Amino Acids: TRYPTOPHAN, LYSINE, METHIONINE, PHENYLALAINE, THREONINE, VALINE, LEUCINE & ISOLEUCINE

Non-Essential Amino Acids: ARGININE, TYROSINE, GLYCINE, SERINE, GLUTAMIC ACID, ASPARTIC ACID, TAURINE, CYSTINE, HISTIDINE, PROLINE, & ALANINE.

So then biological Value has nothing to do with rate of protein absorption?
