    You're much better off using whey protein, here are some facts:

    Casein clots in the stomach, delaying the digestive process. Whey remains soluble in the stomach and rapidly exits the stomach.

    Biological Value (BV)
    Casein = 77
    Whey = 104

    Whey has a 35% better biological value. Whey results in 119% greater increase in protein synthesis, even with less grams of protein.

    Casein was shown to increase cholesterol levels in laboratory animals and humans. Whey was shown in research to lower cholesterol levels.

    Most quality MRP's use a blend of Whey, cassien, milk and egg proteins. I would not make cassien my sole source of protein, but I wouldnt make whey my sole source either. Whey does digest much faster, but I like the idea of a time release effect, where protein is being absorbed over a period of time instead of very quickly, in the case of whey. With that reasoning I prefer a protein blend. I usually have a whey shake and some cottage cheese as one of my protein feedings. Just a thought.

    As far as cutting goes, I dont think what type of protein you're using is as important as making sure you're cutting some calories, mainly in the area of fats and carbs. Bumping up your cardio and cutting some calories will help you lean out. Choosing
    one protein source over another is, in my mind, not going to be that beneficial. Just stay with a good balance of quality proteins.

    I agree, you should get protein from a variety of sources. The point I was making is I would not use casein for the sake of using it. If I were trying to pick a powder, it would be whey or egg, not casein.

    As far as cutting, the type of proteins you're consuming is not that relevant. It has to do mostly with your calories, fats and carbs.

    But don't proteins with a higher biological value decrease muscle loss during cutting more than those with a lower biological value such as whey vs. casein?

    Rose, I think you're making this a little more complicated than it really is. IMHO a QUALITY protein blend is the way to go. Cutting is a matter of counting calories and increasing the cardio. The bioavialability of proteins will amount to very little during a cutting split. A balanced diet followed ALL THE TIME which includes a high fibrous content will be beneficial to good health.
