Creatine does not cause an insulin spike. The creatine still helps by retaining water in your muscles you would not have had otherwise. You probably loose alot of sodium and potassium.
Well, this may seem an odd question, but it might not.
I play Ice hockey, specifically goalie, two or three days a week, at a highly competitive level, for a period of anywhere from an hour to two hours. During this time, as any fellow goalies would know, you sweat like nothing else. Gear that's tough enough to stop 90 mile-per-hour pucks is bulky, fairly heavy, and poorly ventilated. Hence, it's easy even if one drinks water consistently, to become dehydrated in an intense game.
Going on the common knowledge that creatine absorbs water, and shunts it into muscle cells, is my hockey lessening the creative effect significantly? To be blunt, during a week where I had no games to play, I worked out, took creatine, and visibly saw/felt some of muscles as larger - definitely noticeably so, which was wonderful for an ectomorph like me. However, when I stopped the creatine for a few days (circumstances beyond my control, lets leave it at that) and had a few games of hockey, the muscles shrank back down.
My best guess is I don't retain water particularly well, and any form of cardio, especially something as intense as hockey, is draining the water (and the creatine too?) right out of me.
Simple question then: is my assumption true or false, and can you explain it, so I know if I should stop taking creatine until there's a break in the season. There's no sense wasting money, and triggering pointless insulin spikes if I'll only sweat off the creatine or creatine effect later.
Thanks in advance!

That really doesn't answer my "yes or no" type question![]()
I drink plenty of water, but one to two hours at that kind of intensity level will turn anyone into a grape.
Quite simply, I just wanted to know if I was severely restricting the effect of creatine by my hockey...![]()
