2 per day is sufficient on a standard diet. If you are in a time crunch though another protein shake won't hurt everynow and then. The idea is that this is a supplement, meaning it supplements real food when real food cannot be eaten. IOW - real food is always better.

I like shakes PWO and before bed if I don't have any cottage cheese. Other than that, I try and stay with real food.

Its really up to you and your dietary habits. Some days when I have a hard time getting my meals in, I may take up to 3 or 4 shakes a day. Other days when my eating is suffecient, I may only need 1 or 2. The goal is to make sure your getting enough protein. Take however many pounds you weigh and that is a rough estimate of how many grams of protein you should injest per day. So if you weigh 180 lbs, you will need at least 180 grams of protein per day, taken in anywhere from 4-6 meals per day on average. So try to get as much protein from food as you can, and use the shakes to help push you to your protein needs.

BTW... it tastes great with skim milk

I'm curious sometimes as to what actually constitutes real food. Do you consider food you drink real food? (IE Milk)

For example I mix a drink of egg whites and milk if I get lazy and don't feel like making something, would you consider this a real food meal? (Of course I eat a bowl of oatmeal or something as well).

No, I consider real food - food that requires chewing not slurping.

Ok, so eggs cooked = chewing = real food. But cooked eggs = not as good quality because of heat. So even though drinking egg whites is drinking, and in turn would be better quality, you would say eating the cooked eggs are better?

No the eggs are fine because its quality protein. I'm just thinking "OH GROSS!!!"

I prefer to chew my food thanks That and as Jodie posted in another thread, it helps speed up the metabolism because of digesting where whey doesn't require much for the body to digest.

Heh it's not the most pleasant experience, but I just take a deep breath, down it and pretend it's a milk shake .

And when I look at the clock and I realize I should've eaten -10 minutes ago with no meat in sight, the eggs are my best friend.

heh yeah but for some reason it's much harder for me to choke them down when they're cooked, I get sick eating them. When I drink em down I do it so fast I can hardly taste. Besides, the laziness factor comes into play again and when I cook the eggs they always stick to the bottom of the bowl and it's a pain in the ass to clean.

food is food. eaten chewed or slurped. whether you felled the antelope yourself or bought the milk at the store. food is by definition something that supplies nourishment to give energy and build tissue. the 3rd usage of the word 'food' is in reference to solid food. HOwever, this is rather archaic but it is still around and many people still think of food as being only the solid stuff on the plate ( Where would tapioca fit in ? yuck.. you can have my share of that stuff ). in the English language the phrase" food and drink" came into being to express the solid meat and potato dishes and then the potables. Other than milk, beer and water, not much else existed back then to drink. so whatever you drank was not even considered part of your diet.
Things have changed somewhat since that time. Many liquids supply nourishment, in some cases more so than solid food.

people's opinions differ on this, it is only a contextual difference created by our own unique experiences. I certainly consider my liquid concoctions a valuable part of my overall diet plan. Jodi, just as an example, prefers to eat more solid food, contenting herself it seems to non-nutritive liquids. camaro is in between but probably considers his shakes an important food item. There is no wrong answer to this. i have never succumbed to the theory that you must eat certain things at certain times. specifically, the small breakfast, medium dinner then heavy supper that created this mess in the first place. I don't know how many times i was told as a child to " finish all the food on your plate, don't you know that people are starving in ( some strange sounding far away place )???" from my mother.
some days you will find that you want to growl. some days you will take a couple of shakes and a regular meal or two. after a time, you will hit on what works for you.
for me, i have my protein powder mixed in with my oatmeal three or 4 times per day, my coffee- milk- powder- concoctions, my rice, potatoes and chicken, then cottage cheese and salsa. and a couple of beer or double rum cokes ( not diet ). to get the protein up in the evenings, i have gone to double white russians!! it's all good..

So you drink your eggs raw? Can we do that again now? I used to do that and loved raw eggs but then the whole Salmonela (?) crap made me stop doing it.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...
