    Sesame/Sesamin

For those of you interested in SesaThin like I am, please allow me to post a little bit about Sesame and Sesamin. I received this documentation from my endocrinologist as a response to me asking her about the SesaThin by Avant Labs with regard to my hypocholesterolemia. It might turn out to be kinda long, so please bear with me.
    Thanks

Sesame, derived from Savanna areas in Africa, has been used and widely distributed as an important food all over the world. Recently, it has been reported that Sesamin, one kind of lignan in sesame seed, exhibits several physilogical actions in animals. In this study, the effect of sesamin on serum lipids was investigated in humans.
Twelve male patients with hypocholesterolemia were randomly divided into two groups, one was placebo group and the other was the sesamin-treated group. (Experimental protocol was approved by the Institutional Review Brd.) The placebo group received capsules, each containing 180 mg wheat germ oil, 18mg vitamin E. the sesamin-treated group received capsules, each containing 3.6 mg sesamin, 18mg vitamin E, 80mg wheat germ oil. After a preobservation period of 4 wks, each patient received 9 capsules/day for another 4 weeks, followed by 18caps/day for 4 weeks. They were instructed not to change their diet, any habits or alcoholic intake throughout the whole experiment. Fasting blood samples were drawn before , at 4 weeks and 8 weeks on both groups.

(there's a lot of other stuff from a figure that I won't post).

Bottom line of the study was this:
Sesamin treatment significantly reduced Total Cholesterol respectively at 8 weeks. On the other hand, in the placebo group, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides were unchanged throughout the study.

This study suggests that sesamin, a major component of sesame, can reduce serum cholesterol level, especially LDL-C, a risk factor for atherosclerosis, in humans.

Can you imagine now, how anxious I am to get my SesaThin. I say Way To Go Avant Labs.
    All the glory to God!

Wow, im suprised your doctor even heard about sesamin oil, let alone knew that much about related studies on it. If i mentioned it to my doctor, he'd probably think it was some kind of steroid.

I really like my doc....she's pretty wonderful and I can pretty much ask her anything I want and she'll check it out for me. Especially when it comes to cholesterol. She's really interested in helping people, which is why I like her so much.
