Anyone notice that creatine is getting alot of news lately?

CSI had a little blurb on it in tonights episode, and it wasn't what I would call postive.

In a nutshell, one of the murder victims was using creatine and someone gave him something. The combo of the two killed him.

Strange, since creatine is a naturally occuring substance in the human body. I don't remember what the murderer gave him (it was an accidental death).

I highly doubt creatine will get banned.

First, it's one of the few supplements that is accpetable for use by athletes in every national, international, and college sporting organization.

Second, it's been studied, proven safe, and available for years w/o problems.

Third, and most importantly, the drug companies don't seem interested in it, so they won't be drumming up legislation to ban it.

I think creatine is a perfect example of a "food supplement" and falls nowhere near the "drug" demarcation that causes controversy.

I saw the CSI episode last night. It was kind of confusing, but I think what they were getting at was the Creatine dehydrated the guy, and the drug he was slipped in the protein bar somehow worked off the dehydration to kill him. that was my take on it anyway. not sure it was the interaction, but either way... it's only TV.

Wow...I didn't know that. I thought it was fully legal in all sports. I stand corrected.

maybe i'm missing something... I've been searching the ncaa's site for 15 minutes & can't find anything pertaining to creatine being banned. it isn't recommended, but nowhere does it say it's banned.

Creatine DISTRIBUTION by teams IS prohibited. It's use is not.

    am i missing something?

I believe that the NCAA typically follows the IOC banned substance list...

creatine is good, but not a GREAT supplement. I think its important and most people don't get enough because of not eating enough red meat. I like to have red meat twice a day for a week. then only white meat for a week. Then work the red meat back in. So I probably don't need it, and the only thing I notice is water bloat, maybe a little more stamina when lifting, but I can't say that any real size changes or strength changes.

If you do a search for "creatine banned france" you will see that it is banned for over the counter sale.
If you are turning to the bodybuilding magazines for truthful advice of supplements, you're being ripped from both ends. You’re being lied to from ads that are disguised as articles and you are getting lied to from the ads themselves.

How can they ban something you get from red meat? How could they possibly test for it?

you can be tested for creatine. i was reading something that said while supplementing creatine, your urine would show a level of creatinine at 90x the normal level. That would pretty much let the secret out. No mistaking it.
