Why do we need to supplement with stuff like Flax to get EFA's, why do we need EFA's?

EFA's are known as ESSENTIAL fatty acids because they are exactly that...essential. There are 2 macronutrients that we need in order to survive...protein and fat. Carbs are NOT an essential nutrient!

EFA's have so many functions that I will probably write an article on them for this site in the near future. However, EFA's are necessary for the formation of chemicals in the body called prostaglandins which play a role in the following body functions: regulation of blood pressure, heart function, allergic response, inflammation, nerve transmission, and even steroid hormone production. They have also been shown to help with depression, increase insulin sensitivity, and increase bodyfat loss. Sound good?

    Get your EFA's.

Very true Gopro. EFA's should be a part of everyone's diet. I am sensitive to many foods, one of them being gluten. So I cant have oatmeal in the morning or any cereal. What I do is I mix either raw or ground flax seeds, milk (nondairy soy for me), and some fruit like berries or banana. Some people say But, it works for me and is low carb and healthy!

Mixing it with rice is fine. Just mix it in after the rice is cooked. As far as the amounts, it depends on goals, size and weight, etc.
