    vitamin newb?!? help

    Just started my training 7 months ago, and doing a clean bulk.
    Just wondering what are some vitamins i should be taking to aid my body, for over all health?
    I take a multi-vitamin once a day and i just picked up:
    B-Complex
    C = 1000mg
    E = 400 iu

    anything else i should be taking? And how many times a day should i take the C (1000mg), E ( 400ui) and B-Complex ?

    thanks for the help.
    Jay

    The A-C-E have you fairly covered for basic non fat soluble anti-oxidants. But you really need more than just this. Get a good all around multi vitamin. Vitamin D is turning out to be real important for fat loss too but it needs to be in the presence of other things to get utilized properly. I would also look into other anti-ox formulas like ALA (fat soluble). Be careful about getting too much zinc and Iron though since it’s fairly easy to overdose on zinc if taking multivitamins a few times a day. Some of the old formulas have way too much of it. Especially be careful if taking ZMA and a multi-vitamin with lots of zinc since toxicity levels are not really much higher than the old formulas still floating around. It won't kill you but it can give you a reaction (been there myself on this one).

    Frankly in the mega-dosages most of us take multi-vitamins in we urinate a lot of excess away but I personally want to make sure I have them all there when I need them - especially immediately after a workout and right at bedtime. I also have 1 gm doses of vitamin C which I take immediately after rising, after workout and at bed time. It helps the body "switch off" stress hormones and get you back into an anabolic state.

    Just my 2 cents.

    GbC,
    Calcium is one of the more important minerals to have when it comes to helping the body to elect to burn rather than store fat. But you still need to be on a caloric deficit, no free lunches so to speak.

    Studies indicate that low fat dairy is the better form of calcium but there are other forms too. Other natural forms are: dark leafy vegetables, salmon, mackerel, almonds, and oats. If you must you can take it form suppliment form but it is not as effective.

    If using calcium supplements, it's important to choose those with added vitamin D, zinc, and magnesium, which help the body to better absorb calcium.

    Good Luck,

    "Optimum Sports Nutrition" by Michael Colgan is an OUTSTANDING guide to the science of sports nutrition. It's a very comprehensive read that I would strongly recomend. Everything from Vitamins, Supplements, proper diet, excersize all wrapped into a easy-to-read encycopedic work.
