100% Protein Whey
Has anyone tried 100% Protein Whey from Optimum? I have been using it for a few days and the taste is awesome. However, is it an effective product?

I have tried it in the past it mixes alright, unlike HDT Whey Protien, that suks.I'll have to use a hand blender with stuff. OPT/NUT Whey taste pretty good to. EAS 's Whey is good too!!

I totally agree with you Tank and i believe a mixture of protein sources is essential but a good whey protein helps too!
As far as mixing is concerned I know that a protein which mixes wel doesnt necessarily mean its a good protein! Its good for us because we can stick it in a shaker but ! Also a good sign of a good protein is that it doesnt mix that well! Sound strange i know but protein that mixes easy means it has been heat treated and it sacrifices the quality of the protein! There are two ways of getting the Whey and its cheaper to do it this way rather than cold filtered!
Micellar Casein is supposed to be good!
Does anyone remember them taking Designer Protein from GNC off the shelves because there was a scare bout aspartame nothing came of that and most good protein have this in anyway!
Also dont be put off by protein which contains lactose most proteins do its funny Maximuscle has recently been sued in england for saying that they had no lactose in their products!

Optimum is a quality company that makes quality products. Yes, their whey is good stuff. As far as effectiveness, well it depends on how you use it. As a post workout(or even pre-workout ) protein source, it is excellent. For other times of day, food sources of protein and/or protein blends are best.

Yo Tank...whats up? Pro Complex is another fine product from Optimum. It is a mixture of whey proteins with added vitamins and minerals. Great for post workout nutrition. Optimum is one of the finest companies in the industry.

Whey Protein Question??
I have been using Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein and it is a very good quality, good tasting and well priced product. I have a couple questions for you guys...
When is the optimal time to take whey protein?
What is the difference between whey protein and normal protein(chicken, eggs, etc.)?
Why is whey protein best as a pre/post workout meal?
Thanks....

i know that whey is absorbed quicker, and it is effective either way post/pre. any protien is better than no protien.there is no replacing a food source protien, eggs, chick, fish, turkey. if you have no time and need protien in your body right away ,then slam down a drink.but if you look back at our last couple of post we talked about Pro Complex, which has a variety of protien, which would be for post work out. dmx i hope that didnt confuse ya, good luck

Ok, a little about whey. Whey is a terrific protein, with a very high biological value(BV), a high level of the branch chain amino acids, and high levels of growth factors. It is highly anabolic and is absorbed into the bloodstream very quickly...this can be both an advantage and a disadvantage.
Pre-workout is a good time to take in whey because if you are on a low carb diet plan and wish to stay away from carbs before a workout, whey's amino acids will be absorbed and quickly converted into substances that your body can use to fuel your workout. This will prevent your body from stripping amino acids from your muscles, and putting you in a catabolic state.
Post workout is the best time to use whey, as at this time your body needs amino acids as quickly as possible and there is no protein that will provide them quicker than whey. This is what makes whey highly ANABOLIC.
On the other side of the coin, it is also beneficial for us to have proteins that are absorbed more slowly and provide an ANTI-CATABOLIC effect. This is where whole food proteins and protein blends...composed of micellar casein, albumin, and/or soy...show their strength.
These slower proteins will release amino acids into your system in a "trickle" like manner thereby keeping a steady stream of aminos moving into your system over the course of several hours. This is advantageous when you will be going more than 3 hours between meals and especially before bed, when we will be going on a 6-8 hour "fast."
Whey is absorbed too quickly for general use throughout the day and is best left for pre, and especially post, workout.
I hope this explains thing a little better for everyone

You can take it 5-10 minutes before if it does not bother your tummy. Personally, I would take it about 20-30 minutes before, but you will not hurt yourself taking it closer.
