    Mitral Valve Prolapse

I have a client that I know is going to compete in a figure contest. She does have mitral valve prolapse. I know that she drinks coffee and I tell her it is not the best thing for her given her condition. However, my main question is about the final week. Should she be taking diuretics and potassium? I don't think it is a good idea for her. Anyone?

    thanks,
    patrick

i would advise against it just to cover your ass.
honestly though it probably wouldn't be a big deal....the potassium would certainly be the larger concern as it can affect heart contractility in high doses.

If she decides to go that route tell her to be VERY conservative in her dosages. Sometimes, as you well know, we dont always do the healthiest things in the last week before a show in hopes of looking just that much better. If she truly has that competative spirit chances are she is going to do "something" that final week....just tell her to be extra careful.

just my thoughts...which may be messed up due to lack of sleep, exams, and starbucks.
My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right.

Cut out all sodium and drink plenty of water for a week--I know it is obvious, but it can help.

Yeah, I am going to have her pund down the water and get rid of sodium. I am just wondering if there is anything else she can do. I was going to say "sweat it out" in a tanning bed the day before but that may cause inflamation of her muscles.
