there are many supplements out there that have more of an internal effect, meaning it is good for your body but the result of it may not be that noticeable. i cant tell a difference since i started taking multivitamins but i know they are doing good things for my body. the same goes for efa's. glutamine is same way. its main purpose is to prevent catabolism and it also prevents sickness. both of which you just have to have faith that it is doing its job. this is only my opinion so please dont flame me for my glutamine statement.

IMO glutamine is a great supplement if you can afford to take enough of it, which is from 20-40 grams daily...I would definetly use when there is a severe caloric deficit...

I consider glutamine to be a core suppliment along with Whey protein and BCAA capsules.

20-40 grams daily? Yikes, that sounds like a lot of Glutamine and a lot of money. Why so much the product manufacturer suggests 5g/day?

That's simply a suggestion. Manufacturers often lowball dosages to avoid any liability issues and to make the product appear more cost effective. The research on l-glutamine is mixed but most anedotal reports of successful use I've seen are the range LAM suggested.

I use 10g, either after workout or split before and after. I think it's worth it. Micronized AST brand is around $22/kg I think?

That's a good deal. The ON glutamine I purchased a few months ago was about $40.

Sorry I'm wrong. I must have bought the 600g container for that price.

At DPS nutrition you can get AST GL3 Glutamine at $44.95 for 1200g. That comes out to $37.50 per kg which is still pretty good.

Some supplements are "immediate gratification" givers and others are valuable over time. Not everything is going to add 10 lbs of scale weight in a week or boost your strength in the bench press by 50 lbs in two weeks. Some supplements support growth, fat loss, recovery, etc, over time and will lead to better overall gains in muscle/health over a period of months and years. Glutamine is one of these supplements. I swear by glutamine and would not go a day without it. However, do not bother with it unless you are going to take it properly, consistently, and in a high enough dosage.

I've been using glutamine also but am curious to know what dosing you are recommending. Thanks.

The expensive dosing.

30-50g/day.

(yes, that's per day).

GOPRO,
Are you also taking 30-50g? When do you prefer to take it? I use it pre or post workout but may be misinformed.

I feel you need at least 20 mg per day, but you can easily go into the 40-50 g range if you are a bigger bodybuilder (225 + lbs).

The best times are immediately upon awakening, pre workout, post workout, and before bed.

I usually take it between every meal of the day when in very intense training phases, which is when I reach these upper dosages.
