    Whey Protein and Creatine

Alright, I just got back from GNC store (yes I know, shouldn't go there but just this time) and I picked up some Optium 100% Whey Protein and then I wanted to try out creatine, so I got a small little thing of Monohydrate Creatine from GNC name. It was $11 so I said I may as well try it.

So I've been taking Optium's 100% Whey Protein for about a month now, it has 23 grams a serving (1 scoop) So I've been taking it twice a day, with two scoops in each serving. So, I'm around 145lbs 145/2 = 72.5g of protein needed a day, and I'm taking 46x2 = 92g a day plus protein I take in by food.

So I have the protein set up and I've decided to tryout creatine since I've heard about it so much. Now she told me I need to go on a loading phase and I read the directions on the back of the container and it says that I must go through a loading phase taking 4 servings a day (1 scoop of 5g = serving) for 4 days straight. And to never load more than that and only do it once a month. Now I just finished working out, so should I start loading now? Take the 4 servings today, 4 servings tomorrow, 4 servings Sunday, 4 servings Monday, and then what? I am going to lift on Tuesday, but do I only take one serving before I go and lift or what?

So main thing that I'm looking for is that am I doing this creatine thing right? Let me know, thanks in advance.

    DONT LOAD!!!

Take 5grams post workout on training days. And take 5grams first thing in the a.m. on an empty stomach.

Take it after workouts? I thought you should take it before workouts? Then take it first thing in the morning every day other than training days?

Seems totally different than I expected, is this how it works?

Also, would it be fine to mix it with my Whey protein shakes?

I am taking .5g of protein for every lb that I weigh. So I am 145lbs right now, and I am supposed to be taking in atleast 72.5g of protein a day.

I dont think he weighs enough to take 10grams or 2 servings a day.

When you are working out(on days) take the creatine post workout. It is fine to put it in your protein shake. If you want to get technical, then you could take it with concord grapejuice and ALA. Or dextrose and ALA. Then drink the protein shake a little later(within 1 hour of workout). http://thebull.bulknutrition.com/mag...ID=3&pageID=48 There is an article on ALA/creatine/sucrose(dextrose/sugar) uptake.

On off days(non training) take your creatine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

    Understand?

1g per lb is what I would shoot for minimum. I am at 2g+ per lb.

Wow, I don't know if I can even consum that much. If I were to take my protein shake every day, I'd run out so fast. Cause it'd be around 96g (4 scoops) a day if I did it, and I still have like 44g more to take in to get atleast 1g per lb. Is 44g a lot or what are some good things to take in that are high in protein?

Also, is it okay to mix my whey protein with milk? I don't know, whenever I drink the whey with water, it just has the worst taste ever, with milk, it mixes like it's a milkshake (vanilla bean whey protein, that's probably why) I think I did a search before and it says that you shouldn't use milk cause it delays the reaction of the whey protein or something, anyone want to clear this up for me please? Thanks.

You need to get your diet in order. I only get about 1/3rd of my protein from shakes..

Dont mix your whey with milk after you workout. Drink it with water. Also if your trying to bulk you can drink your other shake(s) with milk. If your cutting, I would recommend not to.

I drink my protein with 10 oz of gatorade, and then 40 oz of water just so I can take it down easier. Is that alright? I had heard gatorade had some dextrose in it, so it can't be to bad can it?

    mannnn!

you need at least 1.5-2g of protein per lb of bodyweight

i aim for 300g split over 6-7 meals, so around 40-50g per meal at least, regardless of whether i'm aiming to build muscle or retain muscle while cutting high protien is a must!!

Gawd i get more protein in my first 2 meals than you do in a whole day!!

aim for a good 180g man, thats 30g in 6 meals, if this is hard just get a good whey protein powder and take 2 30g servings inbetween your 3 meals a day and another before bed

thats an extra 90g of protein in your diet right there and its a good start, take with some fruit/toast/cereal to make it into a decent meal (when bulking and is a serious rush i often have a whey shake and a large bowl of weetabix to keep me going for a couple of hours)

forget creatine!!! just concentrate on HIGH protein and loads of food!

creatine is awesome but you should wait a while, if you take it now it won't do anything for you and you will be wasting your money

    good luck with it

    peace

This is what I have been doing lately. Creatine, on non-workout days, I am taking 1tsp of creatine in Gatorade when I wakeup on an empty stomache. I drink the whole bottle of Gatorade before eating anything. Eat my regular meals with protein shake, 46G of protein per shake, 46 x 3 = 138g protein just by shakes.

On training days, I do the same exact thing, except I take my 1tsp of creatine after my workouts, and then have a post protein shake 45min after working out. Today was different though cause I didn't think I would have time to workout, so I took the tsp in the morning for creatine and then I am going to workout and will take a second tsp of creatine after working out, is this fine or should I not be taking more than 5g of creatine a day.

Also, what is something I can take my whey protein shake with cause when I mix it with water, it tastes horrible, however when I mixed it with milk, it was fine. Just something to make it go down easier.

Since you have vanilla protein, you might try mixing it with some kinda juice.. And you can drink them with milk, but I wouldnt drink the one post w/o with milk.

More creatine wont hurt you. Go ahead and take 10g today. I take 5-10g a day, but I weigh a bit more than you.

Another quick question, it's okay to put creatine in any of your food right to have it as an intake that way instead of putting it in gatorade or water.

Read the article in post #7. Now that I think about it, you should take it with something like dextrose, or natural sugars like concord grape juice..

this kid is only 145lbs, and he has had a protein defficiency for gawd knows how long! in this instance creatine will not benefit him

what he needs is lots of good food, plenty of protein, carbs, good fats etc, he can't put on weight without proper nutrition

if he wants to take creatine now then fine, but he will probably put on just as much muscle anyway from eating more, and i think supplements such as creatine are best used once someone hits a wall in progress as it can enable them to get over barriers in lifting, i really think its pointless taking it now, he can obviously still get bigger naturally by eating more food so why not do that and add in the creatine later?

that is what i would do, and i still do it now, i don't take creatine unless i feel i have to take it to keep making gains

    peace

You are totally using the creatine wrong then.

You should always use it, its a staple just liek protein and a multi. Not only does it increase your strength, but it increases protein syntheses, increases the activity of satelite cells that help repair your muscles after a workout, along with a bunch of other variables. But you are right, diet is number 1.. just dont say that he wont benefit from creatine, because thats NOT true.
