Please read (regarding when to take supps)

Hey, I'm about to purchase 100% whey and creatine monohydrate from bulknutrition. I'm just wondering when I should be taking these and how much during the day. I have been using the whey, but I just ran out. I was taking 1 scoop in the morning, 1 after workout, and 1 at night. I have not used creatine before but I am aware of the whole loading period stuff. I just don't know if I should load or not. If so, how many heaping teaspoons should I be taking during the day and when should I be taking them? Same question about after the loading period.

yes i advise that you do the loading phase, gets the creatine into your system much much quicker then if you skip it

for loading take 1 teaspoonful (approx. 5g) first thing in the morning, before your workout, post workout, and in the evening

for maintenance take 5g before workout and 5g post

if you can get your hands on some dextrose mix 20g with each 5g creatine serving, its not essential but it will improve the absorption of the creatine which is certainly a good thing

hope you enjoy your first shot at creatine, i know my first creatine cycle was fab!

You mentioned "cycle". What's recommended by those in the know....stay on it all the time or cycle on and off???

That depends on who you are ... A lot of people will say you need to cycle and a lot of people say there is no need to. A cycle is usually , by those who say it is beter to do it , about a month on and 4-6 weeks off and repeat. I know various people who are on it all the time and they don't seem to have any problems , its really up to you I guess.

yeah, im on creatine most of the year, the only time i get off for a couple of weeks i when i run out and wait to get another one, it really not a big deal to cycle creatine since its not anything "special" like other supps,,, but my question is, why the hell do you drink so little protein ?? you should probobly have 2 scoops after workout and probobly 2-3 times that the whole day..

3 scoops of whey is more than enough per day. most of your protien should be coming from food

The bloating is aweful for me during a bulk....I m taking 10 g creatine/day and 5-6 scoops whey and to add to that wonderfully "smelly " combination, I eat lotsa fiber! I was told CEE might resolve that issue...Its pricy as hell though!

I was also warned of the foul taste..But dont mind that if it can reduce the bloating a bit...I just didnt wanna invest that much into it without knowing that it has the potential to resolve the issue...before divorce happens here!

cycle time on creatine varies substantially, some guys use it for a month then take a break, other guys use it all year round

personally i like to run creatine for 8-10 weeks, then come off it for a bit... the reason i do this is to give my kidneys a break and to stop myself becoming too dependent on creatine, but there is nothing wrong with running it for longer periods of time as long as your training hard and drinking lots of water, i also find it bloats me a bit which is another reason i like to cycle off now and again

regarding the whey issue i take upto 8 scoops of whey a day, i also get plenty of protein from other sources but i use the whey to insure i'm getting protein every couple of hours (its great when i'm in a rush, just mix up some whey add some oats and theres a little meal in seconds!), the idea that whey is only good post-workout is bull.. its a great source of protein any time of the day! and its cheap too! (ON whey )

    peace

Take your Creatine on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before breakfast. Then take another dose around 8 hrs later on an empty stomach.

Some people really kill the protein supplements but that's their choice. Don't follow what others do 100% because not it won't necessairly work for you.

You don't need a ton of protein (approx 1 g. per 1 pound of body weight), else you'll have dead kidneys in no time because they're trying to detoxify your blood from all the amonia that's produced by forming proteins from amino acids. Some people are obviously more genetically resistant to kidney damage and nothing happens, others aren't so lucky. Either way, you should try to take in more protein from food products because it's "healthier" (notice the quotes). Besides, you get more nutrients from real food such as tuna, because you obtain healthy fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6.

The theory around creatine is that once you start supplementing your body with creatine, you're inputing an excess of a compound that the body naturally produces. The body adapts over a LONG time and stops producing creatine in the same levels that it use to do. You won't get ahead by constantly taking in creatine because your body will reduce the amount of creatine it makes. So you either have to keep increasingly taking more creatine, or you have to do an unloading phase to allow the body to start producing higher levels of creatine on its own. Now taking creatine for a long time won't harm you either because the body is counting on you to supply the creatine. When you suddenly stop taking it, your body will have low levels of creatine for a short period of time before it starts adapting and producing more creatine on its own. So do you see why cycling is the most effective path? During the cycle, you're basically increasing your creatine supplies for a few weeks.
