The future of supplements
How do you think the supplement industry will react after January 20? How long do you think it will take for them to come out with something that even competes with the effectiveness of PH/PS's?

I don't know - I'd be surprised if they could prove that young adolescents are screwing up their bodies on creatine.

Everything that works is illegal. Now the future for the black market is lookin' pretty good.
It will be just like in the 80's the only effective supp will be a food product called "protein powder". Everything else will be a scam. Only hormones send the signal that is needed "synthesisize protein" everyhing else is bullshit. You may get a little benifit from creatine. Life was good when we lived in a free society and could purchase 1-m-t and Stackers, those days are gone. A paraphrase of something - When they came for the smokers I wasn't one so I said nothing. When they came for the SUV owners, I wasn't one so I did nothing. When they came for the gun owners I wasn't one so I didn't care. When they came for me, there was no one left to stand up for me, so I was fucked.

the FDA is specifically targeting fat loss supplements and weight loss drugs because of the obesity epedemic in the US. they are trying to actually weed out products which do not meet the actual claims made by the manufactures...

I saw an article on TV where they're starting to do Gene modifications.
You want bigger muscles, all's they have to do is modify such-and-such gene to trigger it, and BAM. No supplements, no bullshit, just a LIFE-LONG of big-ass muscles. (they saw the gene in Swedish Cows or something). They said they can also do endurance oriented Genes, Explosion Genes (like sprinting, or quick swimming), etc. They can basically tailer your genes to your goals. Gene modifying is also undetectable by standard drug testing, so you know damn right the athletes and the olympians are gunna go straight for it.

Plus it would be legal. That's a plus with most people (including me).

I agree with LAM. My gut feel is that the FDA will only go after a supplement that is perceived to be harmful. I agree that the ephedra ban is nonsense. Used properly it is safer than Tylenol. But unfortunately there were some publicized incidents of people using it improperly (particularly that baseball player whose name I forget).
The prohormone ban is more complicated. Let's face it, prohormones can really hurt you if not used properly (proper dosage, proper cycle time, proper PCT, improperly used by boys). Also, the sports industry, for complicated reasons, was one of the chief sponsors of the ban. I wasn't shocked when prohormones were banned. However, as for supplements like creatine and most everything else currently legal, I doubt the FDA will be interested. Three reasons: (1) nutritional supplements simply aren't harmful; the worst that can be said is that some are a waste of money, (2) the supplement industry could fight back and get Congress to stop the FDA, as it did years ago when the FDA tried to start regulating all supplements (remember this is, after all, a capitalist country and Congress listens to business, a source of contributions and votes), and (3) the FDA currently has some big issues to deal with, such as Aleve and Vioxx. Still, the legislation that permits the ban is an encroachment. We'll see what happens if a new supplement arises that "pushes the envelope." |

I don't think the government will really go after people they think are using/distributing prohormones very hard. It is not worth their time or money to do so. They don't even go after steroids that hard. If they really wanted to go after steroids hard, they'd go to the guys they KNOW are taking them (any pro bodybuilder), test them as positive, search their house after the positive test result gave them "probable cause," and convict them. To my knowledge that's never happened. So PH/PS's should be even less of a problem.
My concern is that this law will "stunt" the development of the sports supplement industry because the companies are scared that they will invest all this money into a supplement that is just going to get banned anyway. If that happens, it will really hurt bodybuilding since bodybuilding is largely driven by supplement companies. That would be a shame. |

When they get your guns they will get anything they want. Too bad this went through! |

When they came for me, there was no one left to stand up for me, so I was fucked This is where it actually came from if anyone is interested. First they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for trade unionists, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a trade unionists. Then they came for the homosexuals, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a homosexual. Then they came for me, but by that time there was no one left to speak up for me attributed to Rev. Martin Niemoller, 1945. |
