If your dick hasn't fallen off yet I suspect you'll be okay. But seriously I'd look into other studies before making your mind up.

The tests were done on Japanese Quail, which I have two problems with.
1.) It's a fucking quail, a stiff gust of wind would blow its dick off, and
2.) Who the hell knew there were quail in Japan?
I could perform a test on Japanes quail and show you that a Nike running shoe could crush it's skull, but that doesn't mean it pertains to us humans, so lets not listen to the Japanese.

This strikes me as bad science, i.e. concluding cause and effect without a solid basis. Melatonin is hormone that is produced naturally by humans. It is well established that natural production decreases as we age. That is why sleeping problems become more common as we get older. Which is why supplementation can be beneficial. (If you're under 30 and have chronic problems sleeping, you will unfortunately probably have a bigger problem as you age.)

Can you take too much? Absolutely. But, almost anything in excess is harmful. There are much more dangerous substances out there. Tylenol is considerably more dangerous than melatonin.

I have found melatonin to be very helpful in helping me to sleep. But, I only take 3 mg at a time. I also think it makes sense to cycle it so as not to discourage natural production. So, I alternate melatonin with herbs like valerian.
