Take one that doesnt have fructose as like the second ingredient... The best ones are very high in carbs and calories, but have little sugar. I recommend Masstech, as it is high in carbs, calories and protein, but has very little sugar. This will ensure that you put on lean mass, as opposed to fat from sugar ..

Btw Masstech also has 3g's of Creatine Mono per serving, so take it twice a day and you're all set to become The Hulk.

The Weightgainer you want has 72 grams of sugar..
Masstech has 6 grams of sugar..

You can figure it out from there.

here is a good lesson in reading nutrition labels. the primary ingredient in Mass Tech is maltodextrin which is a glucose polymer. basically it is a long chained molecule of glucose/dextrose. maltodextrin has a very high GI, the same as dextrose at 100.

unfortunately deceptive lableing practices from supplement manufactures allow them to list maltodextrin as a complex carbohydrate when in reality it is not. the sugar content per serving is not 6 grams but closer to the 150 gram total that is listed.

You'll find a lot of opposed opinions, some will say don't take a gainer, do it yourself, other gonna say, do it!!!

IMO, I've been using Cytogainer and ON Serious Mass with great results, but it also depends on your main goal, right now I'm bulking, so far I've gained around 20lbs since January.

As Rocky B said, try to get a gainer low in sugar, Cytogainer has only 5g I think and has 3g of Creatine Monohydrate, and it mix easily, you can give it a try. Also, Serious Mass is a good one. I take twice a day with milk, one after w/o and one before bed, the only thing is that it has just 50g of protein per serving, the serving is big and has over 1,000 calories, what I do, I split it in 2 services and add a scoop os ON 100% Whey, plus 16oz of milk, which gonna give a great shake

Muscle Juice 2544 is an awesome weight gainer.

the fact of the matter is, no matter what youre going to put on some fat, but the fat provides extra energy to build muscle.

-and if it happens to have a lot of sugar in it, take it directly after a workout so you burn off most of the sugar leaving the important nutrients for recovery.

I've had amazing results with it, i gained 15 pounds in a month on it - ive been using it for about a month. i'd say my bodyfat percentage only went up about 1%, and it tastes incredibly sweet. almost so sweet it makes me want to vomit - but ya its good in a smoothie especially. id say if use it youll bulk up quick, but youll have to cut a bit after you use it all.

most weight gainers sucks, most of them are expensive and contains a shit load of sugar, you are better off making your own, get whey protein, and mix it with milk, add honey or peanut butter or whatever, up to you.

you just can't beat whey and oats, instant high quality nutrition in a glass, i drink a good 2-3 of them a day, either along with other food, as my pre-workout shake, or as a standalone. why would you waste your money on a tub of sugar when there are much better more cost effective alternatives

the majority of that weight is from increased muslce glycogen storage and water. for the most part high sugar weight gainers are ineffective for gaining lean body mass. after a while your insulin sensitivity will be shot and you will see a great increase in fat gains

Archive: Ask Anthony Ellis - Part III
Posted on Monday, November 01 @ 07:44:58 MST

Anthony, I really want to gain weight badly so I bought a weight gainer powder recommended by the supplement store salesperson. Do you recommend these?

Well, it's a little late to ask me since you've already bought it, but NO. I definitely do not recommend them. The idea of a higher calorie, easy to drink shake is great, unfortunately most weight gainer products are less than ideal. These products are remnants of the "high carb" 80's, back when everyone recommended eating carbs to gain muscle. Almost all weight gainers on the market contains tons of carbs in the form of sugar. That alone should be enough to make you avoid the product, but they also contain VERY LITTLE protein.

Think about these two points 1) Protein is what builds muscle, not carbs. 2) Excess sugar consumption typically leads to accelerated body fat storage.

When looking for a MRP, or even a weight gainer, look for products that have plenty of high quality protein (preferably whey), and low sugar content. Overall, the product should have much more protein than total carbs and very little sugar.

I really want to gain more muscle, but I'm afraid I will gain fat. I'm not your typical skinny guy. I'm thin, but I also have a large stomach and some love handles. I recently got my body fat measured and it's 28% Is it possible to be skinny and fat? What should I do?

Yes it is possible to be thin and still have high body fat levels. Being "slim" doesn't necessarily mean you have low body fat levels.

I have seen many results from many different types of people on high calorie diets. From my experience, individuals starting a high calorie diet with a high body fat level will tend to gain more fat than muscle. This could quite possibly be due to a sluggish "fat storer" metabolism. On the flipside, individuals starting a high calorie diet with already low body fat levels tend to gain more muscle than fat.

Since you have a fairly high body fat level, you should first go on a fat loss diet to lower your body fat. This will increase your chances of gaining more muscle than fat when you do start a higher calorie diet. It will also help you to keep your body fat levels in check. It is very easy to let your body fat levels get out of hand when trying to "bulk up". This is a mistake. The more body fat you have, the more difficult it becomes to remove later on.

As I said, a lot of people say to make your own gainer shake. When I'm at home and I have time, that's what I do. I mis ON 100% Whey with peanut butter, milk and bananas, but I had my own experience with making that at home and carrying it all day. Usually I'm at school since 10am to 3pm a two days a week until 7:30pm and I used to make my post w/o shake in the morning and bring it to the school, so I could drink it when I go to the gym after school, but since I have to carry it in my bag, the shake has a nasty taste and once it smelled funny.
So, IMO that's the only proble to carry your shake for a couple of hours if it contains milk, instead if u put a few scoops of gainer and mix it with water at the gym, u get a fresh taste... Just my opinion.

it has a ton of sugar in it. I would take 1/2 serving post workout. 55 grams of protein and 168 grams of sugar is WAY too much to ingest all at once for post workout.
