Glutamine

I bought a powder form of glutamine today and the lady that sold it to me said a lot of people actually mix the glutamine with the protein shake and take at same time...is this information she gave me correct or would it be best to take the glutamine before protein...also would 4.5g a day be enough of glutamine? Thanks Gio

If you are taking Glutamine with food, you want the peptide form.

Glutamine should not be mixed with protein shakes as it will complete for absorption.

As most glutamine is destroyed in the gut you'll need a much higher dose, at least 25g per day.

Don't expect significant results, glutamine has very poor clinical studies relating to improvement of athletic performance.

Bump to that as well.

Thanks, also if that was said about glutamine, what are opinions with carnitine or conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)?

I've not used or researched carnitine so I can't comment. CLA has some very weak clinical data behind it so I'd advise you to spend your money elsewhere. Try Green Tea Extract instead, it's cheaper, stimulates your metabolism and is a potent antioxidant.

I could be wrong, but I thought that glutamine competes with creatine for receptor sites and that's why its not wise to take it at the same time as creatine.. Never heard of it competing for receptor sites with protein.

Yah, it should not be taken with ANY amino acid containing food/supplement, in fact, it should just be taken alone. Itll compete with AAKG, creatine, etc. And any protein

FishOrCut- can you back up your statement? Like Rocky, I was under the impression that creatine and glutamine were in competition for receptor sites.
