I have decided to switch from a weight gainer to a whey protein because I always seem to go over in the grams of fat I eat in a day. I was wondering what could be used in a pwo shake instead of dextrose? Or eaten on the side is fine too.
When you say "pwo" are you talking about your post-workout shake or pre-workout shake? If you are talking about your post-workout shake, you don't want any fat or fiber in there because it slows down digestion and absorption. You need the whey and carbs to get to your muscles as soon as possible. When I am bulking, I put a banana, dextrose, and honey in my post-lifting shake for carb sources. Right now, I am pre-competition, so I just use dextrose as my carb source.
Dextrose costs more money I think. I can get a 2.2lb tub of dextrose for 10$. I just never have used it before I was using a weight gainer shake before, but the whey protein seems like a better solution than a weight gainer shake since I am always over on fat intake.
How much dextrose should be added in a post workout shake?
