    has any1 ever tried glutamine??if so please answer and explain the effects and what it does.

    Glutamine is highly in demand throughout the body. It is used in the gut and immune system extensively to maintain optimal performance. 60% of free-form amino acids floating in skeletal muscles is L-glutamine. L-glutamine plays a very important role in protein metabolism, and it appears to be a very important nutrient for body builders. When supplemented, it may help body builders reduce the amount of muscle deterioration that occurs because other tissues that need glutamine will not rob the glutamine stored in the muscle cells.

    First became aware of it's value to me as a marathon runner. I always came down with a cold a week or two after a 26 mile marathon. The number of marathons I had run to that point totaled 8. Then I read an article on how just taking 10 grams of glutamine right after completing a marathon would help your body recover faster and avoid the lowered resistance to illness. So I took it right after finishing the Big Sur marathon of 1998 and I didn't get that cold at all. I've run the LA, SF, and Suzuki San Diego 2001 since then always making sure of downing my simple 10grms of glutamine.
    I now always take it as part of my workout recovery drink of protein, creatine, and glutamine and no I no longer run marathons. At least not since June 2001.

    With a proper diet I don't think glutimine is worth the money. It's a little over rated in my opinion.

    With all due respect to mesmall, I have found glutamine to be the most valuable suplemment around. I take about 30 grams per day all told, year around. Glutamine goes on my top 3 list!

    Good to hear GoPro. From what I know so far, there have not been any studies done on healthy weight trained athletes to support any claims. But if anyone has a link feel free to send it to me.

    Ok, will do. The research on gluatmine's effects in the body are well documented, but often, not enough, or any, research is done with healthy bodybuilders. This is why we are often left to find out for ourselves what REALLY works, and what doesn't. For me, and my clients, glutamine has been a godsend.

    I've taken Glutamine off and on for a little over a year. When I take it, I've never been sick... since being off for about 4 months though I've gotten sick, and I have noticed my body doesnt recover at the same pace as it was when I was downing >20g Glut a day.

    So while you may want links to research (which is definitely out there), I think that first hand accounts are much better. Why? Because I dont have anything to gain by you spending another $1 or $2 a day, and alot of these supplement companies which fund "research" do.

    The amino acid L-Glutamine is the most abundant free-form amino acid found in muscle tissue. Your body makes it and does not need a external source. The issue is if your body needs more of it because of stress weight training puts on one's body. I have read some studies, but none on healthy weight trained people. I am actually taking some now so I will let you know if it works for me as well. It was a gift so what the hay.

    An external source of glutamine is a VERY good idea for hard training bodybuilders. Our digestive tract is a glutamine "hog," and will steal most of what our muscles need. Its positive effects on immune system enhancement is reason enough to use it!

    I having been using Glut for a few months. It is supposed to be anti-catabolic and help repair damaged tissue. I haven't noticed a tremendous effect but I have read too much not to take it. If you are tight on money though I'd spend what you have on a good protein.
