Question EAS - what are they now?

For over 9 years I worked next door to the corporate headquarters of EAS, in fact when they first had the building built and moved in we toured it. This was back when Bill Philips still owned EAS. I believe EAS has have been bought and sold 2-3 times since then, the last was rumored for around $400 million.

EAS - it used to stand for Expiremental and Applied Sciences and EAS only had a few products on the market geared towards bodybuilders, of course this is when Muscle Media was still around too.

Apparently EAS now stands for Energy - Athletics - Strength, and they are in every Wal-Mart and Grocery store, but all I see being sold are bars and MRP's mostly. I just find the entire "evolution" of this company not only interesting but kind of sad.

    What do you think?

EAS is still one of the big dogs in our industry. The don't advertise to the bbing community like Muscletech and BSN, but go to any tradeshow and they throw their weight around.

The just released a new product marketing to bodybuilders, MuscleArmour.

I worked out in the EAS gym the weekend before it got dismantled and sent to their new owners (Abbott in Ohio). EAS still pushes the whole Body for Life Challenge which in itself is a great marketing thing for their product. Just sad to see the whole original Colorado start up get sold and then compromised to and by corporate america.

IMO, the biggest company right now probably is muscletech, their new/old products are still pretty popular. but MEtrx and EAS i duno about them, their stuff is basically bars, shakes, and creatine mono.

I thought they had an agreement with the NFL, in that they were the only ones licensed to distribute products to the players in the league.

EAS fills a popular niche market; seems to do well via their BfL Fitness Challenge program.

    Edit: tactfully ignoring Seattle slurs

Don't want to , but I do disagree with you. Anyway, I used to use EAS products in college alot, mainly Phosphagen HP & Cytovol. I got good strength gains off of them, but they were pricey back then (1996-99). Used to have good products but they haven't kept up with the everyone else in the industry.

Pepper, where at in SC are ya?

    I am in Greenville.

And I understand you thinking the Panthers were better, as foolish as that may be b/c I still beleive that if the Seahawks and Steeleers had a rematch, the Seahawks would be favored and would win.

The only time I use EAS products anymore is when I am out of town and need some RTDs from the grocery or Walmart. Not my favorites, but kinda glad I can get SOMETHING.

Any one know what Bill Phillips is doing these days? I would think he is on an island somewere sipping cold beverages, and having a great time. Never know though, sometimes it seems the more successful one is, the harder they crash and burn.

I heard he moved back to Cali. with his millions after he sold EAS, and not too long ago he put out a new book "Eating For Life": http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/097...lance&n=283155

Unless he is bored he certainly does not have to work the rest of his life.

Here's one of the good things he has done for some of my friends I have known for years and used to work for. Bill is a great person and motivator to all.

This is not particularly relevant, but during the NFL draft special, Suzie Kolber asked Vernon Davis, TE Maryland (now a Niner) how he dropped his body fat while putting on 15 lbs. His answer was working out hard and taking "EAS supplements."

I thought it was odd that he named a single company so figured he must be under some kind of contract with them.
