Supplements for Cholesterol?

Anything good out there to reduce high cholesterol? My step-dad was advised to bring his down.

Red Yeast Rice is what my dad takes and it seems to be lowering his. He used to take Lipitor or some other prescription, but they didn't do as well as the RYR, except cost him more $.
