    What's really worth taking?

I'm trying to find what are the best supplements to take. The general concensus from what I've seen across several sites is that protein powder is a must. No one however can seem to agree on which is the best to use. It's all about someone's opinion.

Beyond protien powders what would those of you who are taking extra stuff suggest and why? I'm looking to build muscle without packing on too many pounds. I just completed a cut phase and dropped 12 pounds in 9 weeks. I've got my weight just under were I really want it to be, knowing that in order to gain muscle I will have to bulk some.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Beside Protein powders, creatine and glutamine seem to be the only consistent supp that most agree on.

Thanks for the reply. I've been considering creatine. I've read that glutamine isn't a necessary supp. Your body produces what it needs of glutamine. From what I've read BCAA's are much better to use. So I guess I'll go with a protein powder and creatine. Might pick up some amino's too.

I've been taking protien for a while now, but just started taking Creatine about 2.5 weeks ago. I've gained about 5 pounds and have upped the weight on every excercise every other workout!!! In the past I always had to stay at a new max for a while before upping again. May just be in my head, but I think the Creatine is a factor!!!

Not necessarily!! When you work out hard, your body depletes it's natural supply of glutamine! The only way to keep it built up is to supplement with glutamine every day! I would try for 20g/day! If not you leave your body subject to colds and such!(Immune deficiency). It also acts as anticatabolic, which is very important when building muscle mass!! BCAA's are good also but if money is a concern, go with glutamine first!

Glutamine can be severely depleted when under constant physical (ie. intense weight training) or mental stress. I am going to start supplementing with it soon, but don't have the money to justify it.

I love my creatine. I take it usually for 1-2months on when training super heavy, then 2-4months off.

Other than my crazy protein bar fetish lately, I haven't taken a protein powder in months.

I must have my flax oil and apple cider vinegar everyday - which I don't consider supplements really as they are whole foods and should be consumed on a regular basis.

    Mulit, cal/mag and herbal iron.

And my antioxidants vitC, vitE and CoQ10.
    A chic on the move.

What's the point of cycling off creatine for 2-4 months?

If yer gonna cycle, do 4wk on 1 off IMO

    I use:
creatine (4wk on 1 off usually yr round)
protein (when necessary to meet needs)
Homemade ECA or NYCA w/ T2(4weeks on 4 off only w/ fatburnrs)
(cycle fat burners 12wk on 12off yr round)
and maybe an unmentionable or 2..or 7

DG and CLP thanks for the info on glutamine. Since money isn't that much of an issue I can add that along with the amino's.

nikegurl, I hear you on the multivitamin. I take one every day and then supplement with vitamin C and E at night. This was doctor's orders.

thanks everyone for taking the time to answer.

-whey protein for post workout meal
-casein/whey/milk isolate/egg albumin mix at all other times per day
-creatine...load, then 5 g per day post workout
-glutamine peptides...5 g three to four times per day
    -strong multivitamin high in antioxidants

...then you could go for a test boosting supp like Tribulis or a stronger product like 1-AD or 1-Test...

If you are in a cutting phase than the list grows longer....

    Cornfed thanks for the info.

gopro thanks also. I sent you an e-mail with a couple of questions. I figured they have been asked before on this forum and didn't want to post something that has been discussed to death already.
