If you're consuming enough protein from quality food sources, then you really don't need to take them separately.
You're better off spending your money on a whey protein powder or food. I get my protein from whey powder, milk, steak, eggs, chicken and fish.
The rule of thumb is 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. So, if you weigh 180lbs, you should be consuming at least 180grams of protein each day.
