Fat Loss Pills - Invaluable tool or B.S?
I'm buying some vitamins and creatine from taylorsnutrition.com Since I'm paying S&H I'm tempted to get some additional supplies too.
I've been cutting for 3½ months. I've gone from 19%bf (182lb) to 11%bf (179lb) and, if pssible, I'd like to hit 7-8% by April (May at the latest). I've never used any fat-loss pills, but I notice several available at taylorsnutrition.com I eat every three hours and I'm never hungry so I can't imagine I need an appetite suppressor. My fat intake is never over 10% of daily calories (including an Omega3/6/9 supplement) so I doubt I need a fat-blocker (to stop fat entering my system). The only other option seems to be "metabolism boosters" but, looking at the ingredience, it looks like some of them are just big doses of caffeine. Are any of these pills actually any good, or are they simply gimmicks from an already gimmick-riddled industry? And, if they are good, which one should I try to get me completely shredded by Spring? Here's the link to the page on taylorsnutrition.com that I was looking at. NOTE: There are four pages of fat loss products. Scroll down to the bottom to select pages 2-4. Any advice very much appreciated. |

Apparently Ephedrine can't be shipped to Ohio.

I'm eating 2000 calories, 200g of protein, 10% or less fat... This is all stuff straight out of BFFM. I've been losing body fat consistently for the past 3½ months. What's wrong with my diet all of a sudden (aside from a few low-cal beers, of course!)?! ![]() |

That DAY may not be perfectly clean. However I did post questions on this board about being able to have a beer or two and was advised that it's OK to enjoy a beer in moderation. A six-pack on a Thursday night may not exactly be everyone's idea of "moderation" but this is not something I plan on doing every day. No beer is the goal, but life's been so hard recently it's been a relief to kick back with a cold one at the end of the day. Previous days only show a beer or two (if any). Hopefully, God willing, more days moving forward will contain no alcohol until it gets to the point when it's not there at all.
Do you never have a beer? And, if you do, does that mean that your entire "diet" is no good, or could it be that you're simply "treating" yourself here and there. Back in the day i'd guzzle down a 30pack with a friend, eat a large pizza, jumbo chicken wings and a salad covered in ranch dressing. Now THAT'S what you call a bad diet! Nowadays I'm eating every three hours, weighing everything, monitoring calories, fat, protein, carb. I'm eliminating starchy carbs from meals 5 & 6. Do you really think, just because I do enjoy a beer (and have drank a few recently) that all supplements "won't do any good". I've lost lots of bodyfat over the past three months. I must be doing something right. No beers ever or no supplement will ever do anything? Is that what you're saying? If so, I have to say, I thnk that's compete crap! |

Yes, so long as you are drinking beer everyday, then supplements will do you no good. |

^What they said. I have a thing with drinking as well as living in New York and having quite an active social life, it's VERY hard to keep away from drinking. I try to keep it to one or two nights a week and if I do drink, it's very little vodka straight up. Anyway, BigG, once you get that in check, then yeah, diet supplements are great for a pre-workout boost and to get rid of some stubborn fat. But as you know, diet and exercise come WAY before ANY pill.

OK. Help me out here. I do want to do the right thing.
Are you saying ONE beer ONCE a week is OK, or is throwing a six-pack down on a Friday night OK? I've done great with every aspect of excercising and controlling my diet EXCEPT for the beer, but I am consciously working on it. I want it out of my diet, but I've just craved it recently. Hence the reason I had posted related questions on here several days ago. Do I need to competely quit beer if I want to get down to 7-8%bf? Also, when I switch to bulking, how badly does beer affect muscle growth? |

7 - 8% bodyfat, hm? I would think that you would need to cut out beer (I am sure once a week throwing a few back is more than fine) but any more than that will most likely sabotage your hard work... and 8% bodyfat is a pretty serious goal, so I would say yes. Once a week, nothing more.

Jeez. That's a shame. My mind plays tricks on me when it comes to beer. I drive home thinking "I'm not buying any" but by the time I'm almost home I'm thinking "Argh! F*&^-it! I'll grab a six-pack, then just have one or two". Six beers later I'm feeling better, but then my diet looks like shit.
I've been to a number of AA meetings in my life, but everyone there seems to have significantly worse problems with alcohol than I do. I couldn't relate to 99% of the people at the meetings because they're talking about D-Ts, getting completely F&^%ed up 24/7, losing their house, wife, money, kids dot dot dot. I'm not like that but, like I said, my mind messes with me when it comes to alcohol. I quit smoking cold-turkey after 20 years, 2 months ago. I have no intentions of ever smoking again. Why is alcohol so different? ![]() |

Congrats on the qutting smoking. I know what that's like as I am an ex-smoker myself for several years.
Now take that drive and work on the drinking too Do you think you are an alcoholic or is it just a rough time for you right now? |

Jodi,
Thanks for the links. Very handy. I'm going to update my Goal Card with some of that info so that I can remind myself that I don't really want to drink (even when I feel like I do!). I'm sure that'll help. It has certainly helped me with the diet, excercise and not smoking. I keep reading it. I think the HeadShrinkers call it Neuro Linguistic Programming, although it's just a semi-permanent reminder of my goals to me. In all honestly I probably am an alcoholic (God knows, I crave it somedays... Well... Every day!) but, if I am, I'm a fully functioning version of one! Like I said, I never related to the people I met at AA (although I did quit drinking for 9months last time I was there, although I never stopped wanting to drink). The problem was that they were always waaaay further "out there" than I ever was. Plus, I'm not a religious man and I found the references to "God" (and all the prayer involved in recovery) particularly annoying. So am I an alcoholic? I don't know... I never lost a job due to alcohol. I don't blow all my money on it. It doesn't seem to affect my relationship with my wife, friends, co-workers etc. I'm perfectly capable of saying to myself I'm going to drink six and that's all (and that really IS all once they're gone). Having said all that though, I would be perfectly content to drink every night if it didn't cause any health issues. I don't mean drink like drunk-drunk. I just like the fuzzy warmth that comes from 2-3 beers. That's what I tend to maintain if I am drinking, rather than drinking until I pass out and piss myself like some people do! I'll update my goal card and make a fresh start of it tonight. We'll see how I do in the week ahead. It's hard to be perfect. ![]() Thanks again anyway. |
