using whey protein is not going to give you any immediate results. sounds like you need to head over to the diet/nutrition forum and get help with your diet.
I have been taking ON whey, but have not seen many bebefits from it. i am trying to gain as much lean mass as i can with minimal fat gain. i have about 16-17% bf as of right now. most of that is of course in my gut! should i try something with a few more calories or continue to stay with the low cal low sugar protein?

That question leads to many more such as:
what's your diet/nutrition like?
what's your training like?
how long have you been training?
how soon do you expect to see results?
I love it when a plan comes together.
my diet is not the best, but it's also not bad. i try to eat at least 4x a day. sometimes i can't. i am a firefighter so when i am at work i do not get to control when i eat.
my training is good. i train on average 4-5 times a week. i spend about 45 minutes to an hour at the gym (working not screwing around). i have been training for years off and on (injuries). i know not to expect immediate results. but i do expect some results.
i have taken 2 cycles of phs in the past and since then i have been going nowhere.
I think it might be a good to post your training regime and your typical daily diet so the pros on here can really help you.
its good that your keen but its hard to help when given relatively little information
I love it when a plan comes together.
