Confused about protein.
I understand that whey protein is a quick release protein better used shortly after working out and that casein is a slow release protein better used before bed. Should I use both? If so, what brands do you recommend? I currently take Muscletechs Nitro tech protein after working out only.
I was looking at syntha 6 but can't decide when that would be best used. It appears to have both quick releasing and slower casein proteins. Could I use it both after working out and before bed? Or should I consider two seperate products? Thanks in advance for your help. |

Personally I wouldn't take much of anything before bed unless it was with just water. My body doesn't appreciate carbs right before bed, makes me fat

Proteins are generally in the whey protein form. The muscles normally need proteins, because it is the main building block of the muscles. You can usually get protein by consuming meat, eggs and other protein giving foods. Yet, whey proteins can be absorbed by the muscles faster and at a higher rate. This means that it will build up your muscles more and will support in giving extra muscle mass to make your muscles better.

I think that your decision to take casein and whey separate or in a mixture depends on when you workout. If you work out in the evening than a mixture may be beneficial to you, since you'll be getting the quick absorption of whey for your immediate needs and the slower casein digestion to sustain you for the night. If you working out mid-day, then you should only need to take the whey post-workout shake, since you can refuel with a meal later on. Then go with a casein shake before bed.
