how long are fish caps good for? i have a huge jug, that i have had for a long time (2+yrs), and there is no expiration date on them. think they are still good?
they have always been stored in a dark cool place (below 70*)

If it passes a smell test it is probably still good.
Most likely less potent though |

Premier, take a few and see if you get horrid fish-burps (as opposed to the usual, "pleasant" fish burps!)
If you don't, they're fine.

Smell is the best indicator. Spoiled fish oil smells bad, real bad. Even if it's quality stuff, once the jar is opened there's risk of them spoiling even if kept in a cool dark place. I've read the best thing to do if you buy bulk is to refrigerate or freeze them.

Life is up to 3 years from production. Thing is, you don't know when they were produced. There is little risk in taking them if they look and smell fine.

You can find more info if you are interested at ISEO: Home Oxidized fish oil | The Blog of Michael R. Eades, M.D. My suggestion would be to toss what you have a buy some fresh fish oil.
