    Creatine and Booze

Is it safe to take creatine while drinking heavily on weekends? I actually take creatine every day, but would like to know whats the downside of taking this while zipping on booze on weekends?

Dude, I'm a recovering alcoholic. (Which trying to body build and stay drunk all the time is extremely difficult) but I took creatine and all kinds of of supps while hitting the bottle. I drank on an average of 12-15 beers per day and around 25-30 on Saturday/..Sunday... until I switched to vodka.

I got my blood work back from the doc. after I quit and put myself in treatment, and my kidneys and liver are okay. Elevate enzymes , but still within "ok" range. This is after 20 years of alcohol abuse. This goes to show how EVERYONE is different, and ALL people respond differently to different chemicals.

From what I've experienced with creatine and booze is a lot of water retention, a lot!!! I mean i can see it on my cheeks. I've currently stopped using creatine (because at the moment me and booze are not going our seperate ways) .

Can you give me some tips on what made you stopped drinking? I drink out of control on weekends when I party, but I really follow a strict training schedule and diet on weekdays. Weed might be something to think about as a alternative for booze (as wrong as it sounds).

as far as when to stop drinking ...that's something you just gotta know...besides my stories of pathetic nonsense, out of control self behavior, is too sad for a bodybuilding forum. I gotta save all that non-sense stories for the sober-recovery forums. I did start bodybuilding in jail though. When your good, they let you mop the floors ...we used to use the mop buckets with water for doing curls. Oh the good times!

well, the creatine puts extra stress on the kidneys, as will the alcohol, but I would probably say take the creatine in the morning assuming that you drink later on in the evening.

I know it sounds retarded to drink when your working out religiously, but its just my life style at the moment. I make no excuses, I know booze will kill my gains, but that's something I've come to accept because I party hard on weekends.

Good tip, how safe is it to drink while on creatine? I know about the extra stress on the kidneys, but I assume it wouldn't be safe to do this for a long period of time correct?

As far as muscle gains, alcohol wont kill your gains that much. I've read the articles on how it decreases testosterone and increases estrogen, but I've been drinking for 20 years with the last 10 years being extremely heavy. I've started training again about 20 months ago and I'm pushing more weight than I ever have in my life. The only thing is that it will make you a bloated pig, If you drink enough! Even if you don't eat properly, or much at all. ( have you ever seen the old alcoholic skinny guy with the bloated out gut?) So throw in some food (more calories) and your a fat fuck. I've been sober for almost 40 days and my waist size is continuing to shrink. I can actually see abs protruding from underneath all my fat! I can't wait to post the before and after pics. Friends and fam will totally freak.

It does put stress on the kidneys as Prince stated. I could actually feel it. Hell, I can remember eating a spoonful of creatine and washing it down with a beer. Dumb.

Hi I used to drink a fair bit at wkends too, especially wine, a couple of bottles a day, and it always made it's way to the abdomen. Foe me it got more of a habit than a craving so cut it out for 6 months and now just have a beer or glass of wine with a meal. Feel so much better for it, and the spare tyres going too.
