Tribulus Redemption?
For those consumers savvy to the supplement market, Tribulus terrestris is probably a recognized name. This herbal supplement has been sold for years with claims of boosting testosterone and male libido. Often these claims are met with skepticism, and by users, mixed reviews. There are many who report visible results with the use of the herbal testosterone booster, and many others who claim to see no benefit. This has resulted in very strong and different opinions as to its value (or not) to bodybuilders. It is true that marketing claims tend to be supported by research, but it is research from Eastern Europe, which is often held up to scrutiny in the West. The limited Western data that is available on humans has not yet substantiated the claims of manufacturers. The debate has been stalled here for some time.
Well, some researchers have apparently not given up on Tribulus. A study was recently published in the journal Phytomedicine that looked at the hormonal effects of Tribulus terrestris in primates, rabbits and rats. The animals were given between 2.5mg/kg and 30mg/kg of Tribulus extract, which was administered by intravenous injection. In primates, testosterone and DHT levels increased by 52 percent and 31percent, respectively, in response to Tribulus administration. In rabbits there was only a statistically significant 32 percent increase in DHT (an non-significant increase in testosterone was noted), while in rats there was a 25 percent increase in testosterone. Indeed, this is not a Western human study, and uses the implausible method of injection to give the product to the animals. So one cannot exactly consider this study as redemption for Tribulus. It does, however, suggest that it is too early to close the door on this herbal supplement. There may indeed be something substantial to it that this study will help researchers close in on. I for one hope it sparks a new wave of interest, and additional, more detailed, human research.

For the price, it doesn't deliver. Tribulus is crap.

Tribulus terrestris has consistently FAILED to increase testosterone levels in controlled studies. It has also failed to demonstrate strength-enhancing properties:

These are HUMAN studies. It's time to give up on Tribulus.

As much as I agree on all counts that it has not been demonstrated to have anabolic effects in humans, I can't get over what happened to my boobs when I took it.
It does SOMETHING. I don't know WHAT, but there is something going on.
Either that or the brand we bought was laced with dbol!
