Protein Synthesis
I have read most of the threads regarding insulin spikes etc and dont wish to start another debate on that. The topic seems to focus around glycogen replenishment. I am personally not a fan of insulin spiking PWO - having tried dextrose a few years back I found it did not really provide any additional gains/recovery when compared to WPI alone.
I do however have a question regarding protein synthesis and how to maximise this. As part of my recent cut over past 12-weeks I have consumed both my daily WPI shakes (morning & PWO) with water only, with no carbs/flavourings added. Is WPI alone likely to be sufficiently digested when taken in a fasted state (breakfast) or PWO? Would this promote effective protein synthesis? Id appreciate some opinions as Id prefer not to add additional calories to these shakes but dont want to 'waste' the WPI either. |

You're not wasting the whey at all.
All the insulin spike it intended to do PWO is to shuttle nutrients into your muscles when calories are preferentially partitioned towards muscle, but there's no overwhelming "need" for it. Don't kid yourself though, if by protein synthesis you mean muscle growth, you have none of that going on during a cut basically. You can stand having a shake for breakfast though? I would be STARVING like 20 minutes later, but that's me. |

No, I dont mean muscle growth when referring to protein synthesis - I am coming from a protein absorbtion or utilisation perspective. |
