flaxseed oil

A friend told me that I should start taking flaxseed oil. What is flaxseed oil? How will it help if I did start to take it, and if it is good can I mix it with my protien drink? sorry so much questions but my brain is still in the learning process. Again mahalo's for the replyz... and much ALOHA's.

Flax seed oil is an OIL that comes from flax seeds. Same as olive oil, canola oil, etc.... You can buy it in a small bottle usually at a health food store or some main stream stores now carry it. I get mine from thrifty's or costco.

It is very rich in omega 3's, 1 tbsp has about 8g of Omega 3's.
Yes you can mix it with your protein drink. I do this quite often, but I will eat or drink pretty much anything.

1 tbsp of flaxseed oil provides 8 grams of ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), which is converted in the body to EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and then DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) at an efficiency of 2–15% and 2–5%, respectively.

EPA and DHA are highly beneficial to the entire body. Which is what you are trying to get from your omega 3 sources. But a better source is fish oil my friend, it converts to EPA and DHA much more efficiently because it's already in an animal form.

I would suggest buying some fish oil capsules as well as some flax seed oil. Both can be easily obtained.

^ Yep. If you look on the label of most fish oil containers, you'll see that the total EPA+DHA content is usually 300mg (ignore the 1000mg or 1200mg that is written on the front). Three grams of EPA/DHA is what you want daily, and that comes out to 10 capsules each day. Fish oil is cheap, and you'll get used to popping all those capsules.

You can also try Krill oil.....

A better supplement, is Udo's Choice, a blend of omega 3.6,9 in the right ratio's, totally organic, no herbicides or pesticides.

This information is actually really beneficial for me. I've been taking 2 flax seed capsuls 3 times a day and I never really knew what the purpose of them was. A friend of mine thats a bodybuilder just said flaxseed oil and multivitamins are good to take when you're working out. Do you know of any other suppliments or whats good to take as far as cutting weight and building muscle?

I took my flax in liquid form, followed by a chaser of my protein shake. I wouldnt mix it with your protein shake cause it will make it taste like crud

Welcome foxbody! Since you are just starting out, I will have to tell you the most important aspect is your diet. Tuning in the right diet for you will work wonders, and then you will be able to determine what you need to work on, and have a better sense of what your goals are going to be.
