I have a few questions about stretching:

1. Should I stretch before I run a 40 yard dash to get the best time?

2. Should I do static or dynamic stretches before I run a 40?

3. Does flexibility play a role in running faster?

4. Does stretching do anything for speed?

thanks!

1. Do dynamic warmup with no static stretching.

2. Answered above

3. Flexibility and technique factor into stride length. If your stride frequency remains the same and your stride length increases, then you will run faster. This is not to mention that many people's flexibility prevents them from training properly in order to build the strength needed to get faster.

4. Yes, answered in #3.

1. no
2.dynamic warmup, no ballistic type stretch
3. yes
4. depends, you definately needs to be flexable but for more tension in the muscle before an event you should avoid static stretching. Static stretching after the workout or event is good.

Always stretch before you do ANY sprinting...this is fundamental and will not only improve your sprinting, but more importantly prevent injuires - which could sideline you for weeks!
