also if your second opinion comes out to be the same dont forget to ask during rehab what movements can you do on your own to stay active. you dont want to let your body atrophy. I would go nuts w/o WOs or something physical.

    Good luck dude!

I had a inguinal hernia and there was no bulge. Just constantly irritating (like the pinching feeling ) They put mesh in and I couldn't lift for 6 weeks .After the surgery I left two hours later. most people stay for a day or two but depends on the person. After the surgery the pain is intense. Cough sneeze or even shit bro was intense. Oh an you are not going to have sex or beat it lol. It was not to bad just make sure you are eating very very clean. Better to get it fixed now then later because it can become deadly.

This is what it will look like after surgery.

How painful is it? Do they give you awesome drugs? I figure its the only time to get high on that shit for a legitimate cause.

This hasnt been as bad as my last one but it hurts to pee, fart, walk ect. I have been managing the pain with ice and motrin but tonight I took a vicodin to help a little more. I have ice on me now, it really helps.

I was thinking about farts. Theyre funny and I like showing my farts off to people. Its gonna hurt huh? How about shitting?

They gave you pain medication yes? I dont know if I want to take anti inflammatories right away but Ill do pain killers.

I was thinking of doing pain killers for the first worst days then advil for when I return to work. I can do light duty at work, but I dont know how long Ill need to take off. Any ideas?

Bottom line, when I see the surgeon, I am gonna ask him if this is as bad as the other guy said and if it is needed. The guy that diagnosed me was at a walk-in clinic and he wasnt an MD, he was a PAC or PAS. He spoke to the MD there and he referred me, but he never looked at me.

ok, so guys that have had a hernia, if I were to have one, would I be able to complete a heavy deadlifting workout without pain in the area, or were you still able to lift heavy while it was there?

I have this sore area in my lower abdominals, and for the life of me, I can't figure it out. I was working under the assumption that since I was deadlifting without pain to the area that perhaps it is indeed just a strain, but I think a trip to the doc is in order this week. The pain occured during a hockey game when I reached with my stick to try to lift another guy's stick from behind. Felt the pain immediately, like it was stretched out in a funny position. didn't happen from any heavy lifting and it was a sudden pain. Is it my understanding that a hernia develops over time? Can you just go "pop" and get a hernia?

Funny you mention that cuz I was on my way in here to ask the same god damn thing! People, I just deadlifted 315lbs for 8x3 with 60 sec rest, pain free. This, THIS requires surgery?

I am going to use that exact wording when I see this guy (hopefully) tomorrow.

Both my hernias were pain free.

Yes its going to hurt when you fart or shit for a few day after surgery hell its going to hurt when you laugh. They give you percs and you don't need to take them its not that serious. And depending on the job you are not going to want to work and you are not going to want to take the percocets and live your life. If you take the meds you will feel alot less pain and you may rupture the work or stiches or buterflys they used .And just because it does not hurt when you lift weights doesen't mean your fine. Mine only felt like it was pinching during certains things throughout the day. I could squat fine. The thing is with a hernia is the intestine broke through the muscle and if left like that the tissue you can die or worse the intestine can rupture and your stool will cause a major infection.

    Thank you.

I am out of surgery and at home. I got the mesh put in on the right side via larcoscopic surgery. They gave me a script for Percocet and I am on 2 right now plus the aftermath of the anesthesia. I just took 2 advils until I can take more perc (I dont have the script yet).

The needle for the IV and the shot of Heprin into the stomach were the only parts of the surgery that were bad and they were hardly that anyway. But, with all the drugs im on, I feel like I got a block of stone on my right side that constantly aches at about a 5 in between 1-10. When I move, its a six. I am sitting upright in a chair and its the best so far. I want to lay down and I will in a few, but when I got out of the hospital bed it sucked. What also sucked was the first piss. I kept starting and stopping. They wouldnt let me leave the hospital until I pissed and if I cant do it at home with a full bladder, I gotta go back.

In a nutshell, its not so bad. Doctor said if it keeps on this route, I can do *light upper body next week.

I am eating some fruit and when I get my script delivered from my girl, shes gonna bring me some stool softeners to make my stone turds into some greasy porridge.

Ah, I love hernia stories! Nothing like a good inguinal hernia. Had a single, right side, years ago. God's pity on anyone who pops a double. I lived with it for several years before surgery. I was working for temp services at the time, had no insurance... so I had to keep going to one job after the next, waiting to work for a company that would hire me without me taking a physical first. Finally did, but waited a year to have it done on my vacation, rather than take time off.

Akira, yours sounded small and mild, so you got lucky, and you'll be back to normal soon. Mine was a huge blow out, I had to wrap myself up with two heavy duty knee wraps every morning. One had a loop, that I stuck my leg thru, the other was one of the big thick white ones, that went over it, then a pair of spandex shorts to keep the whole mess compressed. I tried several different hernia belts that I bought on Ebay, and even something called a sacrioliac belt, that is meant to be worn down low... but spandex wraps with homemade pads made out old handkerchiefs were the best. Not a fun time.

Sometimes when they pop out, the only way to get it back inside is to lie down, and wiggle it back in. The big ones make a sickening noise, too... like sloshing, gurgling water. The painful part was the initial tearing, which seemed to happen slowly over about 2 weeks. I had no idea what it was, thought it was a pulled muscle. Someone talked about them getting infected....that's called a strangulated hernia, where the intestine gets trapped in the hole, and it cuts off the circulation of blood, and a part of your intestine actually dies.... I read that they MIGHT be able to save your life by cutting part of it out and sewing it back together, if they catch it early, but it's best to avoid the whole possible death thing.

So for those of you have odd pains, weird bulges, and hear that sloshing, gurgling sound, get to the doctor ASAP. The surgery sucks, and you'll probably be walking like a 90 year old man for a week, taking really slow, 6 inch steps, but it heals, and you'll almost certainly have to only go thru it once... the sew-in mesh thingy works really good, they say. Sometimes they staple them in, and I read a few stories where that didn't work so good, staples going thru nerves, and all.

Lying down is good. Trying to get up again, slow torture. I had to pee into plastic tupperware dishes for nearly a week, and empty them once a day. It's like one whole side of your body is nearly paralyzed by the pain. Won't be making any sudden moves, that's for sure. But it does heal up, and MOST everything goes back to normal. Only limiting thing for me was I can't do hyperextensions/ Roman chair exercises anymore. I start feeling that pain, and panic.... the idea of that mesh ripping out and having to have surgery again scares the hell out of me. But all other exercises, and running, are totally good, with no limitations. Good luck healing up, man!

Hey, I currently have Bilateral Inguinal Hernia that was picked up with Ultrasound yet I have no buldge so the Surgeon says I don't have it yet it feels like my groin is tearing 24/7. Is that what you had? and how did they detect yours if there was no buldge?
