A few months ago while I was doing a clean and jerk I felt pain in my outer side of my right deltoid. I decided not to finish working out and rest for a few days.
Few days have stretched to few weeks and now a few months have gone by and the pain is still there and I was pretty much scared of working out. Sometimes the pain can keep me up all night as I cannot find a position that I can sleep in without pain.

A few days ago I decided to try putting a hot towel on my deltoid for about 10 minutes followed by a good strong massage from my wife on the effected area, I was able to bench press and do some lighter cleans but I took it easy.
A few days later I warmed up but did not do the hot towel and massage and the pain was very intense so I stopped, used the hot towel again and the massage and I was able to do bench presses and shoulder presses with mild pain.
Should I see a specialist about this at this point? And what kind of specialist should I see? I do not have insurance and will be paying cash so I dont want to waste my money going to the wrong doctors.

Is it cheaper to take an x-ray to find out the problem before going to the doctor?

I am not sure I can get x-ray done without a doctor requesting it. At least that is what I had to do in the past. Another thing I noticed, when I take a really hot shower, the pain in my shoulder subsides drastically even when I fully extend my arm up to the ceiling, normally that hurts like hell. I am starting to suspect that I may just have a strained tendant and not a tear.

I had same problem with my lower back (I felt like I broke it), knees, sholders and wrists. For my lower back I had to go to physical therapist. She taught me some stretching techniques that took care of it. Rest of the joint problems just went away when I gave myself enough to heal and took easy on them. And yes I took some massive doses of many joint supplements for a very long time.:)
