My searchfu is weak tonight so I need some help. On another forum I'm dealing with a guy who says the best way to loose weight it so simply not eat. I've tried over and over to convince him that he might loose weight but, his overall health will suffer. What I need are some studies or credible sources that show skipping meals is a very bad way to go about dieting.

Thanks.

Lose, not loose is perhaps why your search-fu is failing.

And you may want to examine "Intermittent Fasting", aka skipping meals as it's actually a quite good way to lose weight. It worked well for me and allowed me to gain muscle while losing fat for the past year.

Check out Martin Berkhan's site: Intermittent fasting diet for fat loss, muscle gain and health

I had about a 6 to 7 hour eating window, worked well for me since I hit the gym mostly after work.

Yeah, my spelling-fu has ALWAYS sucked.

I understand about intermittent meal skipping but, he's talking about all freakin' day. He's convinced that if he only eats one meal a day he'll drop pounds like crazy and be as healthy as a horse. I've been trying to tell him that yes, he may lose weight but, he certainly won't be healthy.

1000% correct. And alot of what he will be losing is muscle

One meal a day? Yeah, that's a bit extreme. Just my opinion, but I think the body needs more time to process and absorb all the nutrients it needs than the few hours a single meal stays in the small intestine. Unless he's tossing down a protein shake for lunch and maybe before bed, he'll probably lose some muscle.

I don't really, other than the fact that it's an argument and I HATE to lose arguments. :D

Smart people already know you won the argument.
The other guy loses Muscle, and fat.

Its a win / lose situation :roflmao:

There's a study out there I've read the abstract for that compares boxers losing weight eating at differently meal frequencies. The amount of weight lost was the same, but the group eating more frequently preserved more LBM. It was like 6 vs 3 meals per day if I'm not mistaken.

Oh, you might also consider gathering some information on the concept of the thermic effect of food.

Skipping meal will destroy your bond with energy,, all of sudden an energy graph will go down,, but you wont loose the weight,, a planned weight lose is the perfect idea,,
