Miami cop accused of driving 120 mph in squad car to off-duty job

That dyke FHP officer isn't happy.

Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com

A Miami police officer in a marked squad car has been charged with reckless driving, accused of zigzagging through Florida Turnpike traffic at more than 120 miles an hour so that he could be on time for his off-duty job, the Florida Highway Patrol said Saturday. Officer Fausto Lopez, 35, of Miami was handcuffed at gunpoint earlier this month and charged with second-degree reckless driving, a misdemeanor, according to the highway patrol's offense report. Lopez was eventually released, authorities said.

In a pursuit videotaped on the trooper's in-car camera, Lopez led Florida highway patrol officer D.J. Watts on a seven-minute, almost 12-mile chase in pre-dawn darkness on Tuesday, October 11, the report said.

The state patrol officer was driving on the turnpike when the white marked Miami police car blew by at a high rate of speed and "crossed over all lanes of traffic," the report said.

The highway patrol officer couldn't even overtake the Miami police car "due to the unit traveling extremely reckless, in and out of traffic at high rates of speed, in excess of 120 mph," according to the report.

The Miami cop ignored the state patrol officer's siren and lights -- and even "accelerated" at times and continued changing lanes.

At one point, the Miami officer slowed to 78 miles an hour, but sped up again, the highway patrol said.

Finally, the Miami officer, wearing his uniform, pulled over his squad car at 6:35 a.m. in Hollywood. A state highway patrol video shows the state trooper pulling out her service handgun as she approached the Miami police car with the officer seated behind the wheel.

The Miami police officer "stated that he was en route to an off-duty work detail and that he had to be there by 7:00 a.m.," Watts wrote in her report.
On the Florida Highway Patrol offense report, the document lists Fausto's occupation as "police officer" whose employer is "City of Miami Police Departmen(t)" and lists the style of automobile as "police car," a white 2008 Crown Victoria.

A Miami police spokesman couldn't be reached immediately for comment Saturday. But Miami Police Detective Willie Moreno told CNN affiliate WFOR in Miami that the department will determine whether to take any action against Lopez after a judge rules on his case.

The Florida Turnpike is also designated as Florida State Route 91, and the turnpike's website nicknames the highway "The Less Stressway."

You know this woman to be this by what presented evidence.

The Miami officer was wrong, dead wrong, in his driving.
Driving at that speed and in that manner, how was the FHP
officer to know that the patrol car wasn't recently stolen
and not yet reported or that the driver was sufferring from
an adverse medical condition UNLESS she stopped him.

Due to the stop being recorded on her in car
camera system, she had to act
in a fair, firm and impartial manner.
    Her actions were appropriate;
the off duty officer knew better.

Dad's home nurse likes OPRAH so that's when
    I watched it...

As for the WNBA, a woman once took me to a Mystics game
and the seats were great; Better than any
seats I've had at a Wizards game and maybe
I got duped but I started watching it alot more after that.

    Thanks for the father sentiment.

    DFinest...

Even other Cops agree that she was way out of line...

Tell us if it's normal procedure to hold someone at gun point for JUST speeding?...

Even her dispatch unit told her to stand down...

You claim the driver was dead wrong, sure he commited a traffic violation...

But it was the arresting officer that was dead wrong in her arresting procedure...

UMMMM it is legal bro, the speed limit is 65mph thats 55mph over a felony in FL. over 30mph is a garenteed court date no questions asked. They can even tow your car and bring you to jail at that point in time. Its called a felony stop. I would have gone through the same procedure. granted i never watched the video so im sure she was out of lime atleast some bti but if you commit a felony im doing a felony stop end of story. fucking haters

Fleeing and eluding, which this officer was doing at the time,
    is a FELONY STOP young grasshopper;
FELONY STOP means that the OFFICER IS GOING TO HAVE THEIR
GUN AIMED AT THE CAR TO GET THE OCCUPANTS OUT.

My guess here is officers from one department
are voicing a biased opinion due to one
of their own being charged BUT the video
surveillance is shut up all of the non-sense.

Attorney William Matthewman said Lopez was weaving across lanes, trying to get out of the trooper’s way, because he thought she was on her way to an emergency call.

lol What a crock of sh1t. Gotta love a lawyer's BS. The chase was, what, twelve miles in seven minutes? For seven minutes Lopez assumed the cop chasing him with lights and sirens was on its way to another call? LMAO

"Oh, what a coincidence, that officer and I are going the same way."

    Bovine Scatology...
Lopez, being a police officer, is aware that when the
lights and sirens are behind you,
PULL OVER! If the officer passess you, then you
know that you were not the target of the officer's stop.
