Elderly homeowner shoots armed teenage intruder
A 78-year-old Cleveland homeowner opens fire on a would-be teenage burglar.
It happened at 11:30PM in the 7400 block of Clement Avenue.
Ted Ziolkowski tells police he is fixing up the home to rent it out. He currently has the couch in the kitchen because new carpet is being put in the living room. Ziolkowski was sleeping on the couch when he heard someone in the hallway outside the kitchen door. He then saw a flashlight beam, and heard the door being pried open. That is when Ziolkowski fired one shot into the hallway, and called police.
When police arrived, they found the teenage suspect with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was armed with a crowbar and handgun.
He was taken to Metro, where he is in surgery.
Police are investigating, but say Ziolkowski has a valid CCW permit.
Ziolkowski was not hurt.
