Boston mayor's letter to Chick-fil-A: Stay out of Boston!

    By Dylan Stableford

On the heels of Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy's controversial public comments against same-sex marriage, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino fired off a letter to Cathy, urging him to abandon plans to expand the fast food chain to his city.

"In recent days you said Chick-fil-A opposes same-sex marriage and said the generation that supports it has 'an arrogant attitude,'" Menino wrote in a letter dated July 20 and published online Wednesday. "Now--incredibly--your company says you are backing out of the same-sex marriage debate. I urge you to back out of your plans to locate in Boston."

"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" Cathy said in a recent radio interview. "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

In an interview with the Baptist Press published last week, Cathy doubled down on his stance against same-sex unions.
"Guilty as charged," Cathy said. "We are very much supportive of the family?the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

"We know that it might not be popular with everyone," he added, "but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."

All 1,608 of Chick-fil-A's restaurants are closed on Sundays, a day of rest for most Christians.

"Here in Boston, to borrow your own words, we are 'guilty as charged,'" Menino continued. "We are indeed full of pride for our support of same sex marriage and our work to expand freedom to all people."

Earlier this year, students at Northeastern University protested a proposal to put a Chick-fil-A on its Boston campus because of the company's history of supporting anti-gay organizations. The school abandoned its plan.

My wife's boss' wife is a big wig at Jew fil A corporate in ATL and makes about $450K/yr.

I'd pretend to believe in God for that kind of money.

For the longest time Chic fil A wouldn't franchise to coloreds. They would get sued in their home county back in the late 80's and early 90's and would always win.

Truett Cathy is a great man who has done huge things for ATL particularity the southern suburban counties of ATL.

His sons are useless Sunday Christian fucks IMO.

I am a huge advocate for civil rights and protest. I don't care if your black, gay, white or any thing. We live in a free country and every one has the right to run there business the way they choice as long as it does not effect the physical lively hood of others. Just as gay people march for their rights and beliefs, hardcore christians should be able to do there protests in a non violent way as they choice. I am all for gay rights, just because I believe in a free country. I use to be anti every thing period, until I went to war and realized we fight for freedom and freedom to me is the ability to live our lives happy wither it be smoking weed, being a christian, athiest, or gay. If God truely does not want gays to be around then let him make that decision it is not our job to judge, just as the gay community needs to respect chik fil-a for their beliefs/

Well, I just have one thing to say to all christian followers...

If god truly despises homosexuals and doesn't think they deserve any human rights at all because it is an abomination, then WHY'D YOU CREATE THEM IN THE 1ST PLACE!

I've always found it interesting that the split second when whatever group does not get their way 100% then they are being discriminated against. Even christians.
If gunners were as violent as anti-gunners believe, logically there wouldn't be any anti-gunners left.

I agree and so does Obama, Pelosi and Reid. If they, along with the other poor little people loving Dems, really wanted more rights and marriage for the pillow biters, they would have ram rodded that through in 2009 like everything else.

I believe in God and respect him, but I can not fathom half the shit that comes out of religion and "christians mouths" There is no way we would be burned for enturnity for listening to rap music, jacking off to shemale porn, or taking gear. I hate religion it is the seed of all destruction in our world. Every major conflict we have had was based around religion. Even in medieval times. To many people have died in the name of God that I find it just an excuse. When you really read into history at the men we put our faith into ie the pope they are even more corrupt then the evil people who are published in the news.

Want to find a fast way to make a christian feel out of place... Well I lost a friend a marine in war... Some one said he is with God now and in a better place. I responded no your religion puts him in Hell because before he died in combat, we were having sex with girls every weekend, drinking, fighting, and looking at porn every night in Iraq. So how would he be in heaven if your God is that strict.

    not really^^^
God expressed His intolerance for sin and His love for humanity all at once in the crucifixion of Jesus, Jesus life was that final payment in full for all sin (yours included), paid at the cross. Therefore, making peace between God and man. That is zero tolerance, and an unmeasurable amount of love. Christianity is about that relationship formed between man and Jesus, through faith in His completion of ^^^ the cross.

Great story. But here is another...

Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard
To give her poor dog a bone,
But when she got there, the cupboard was bare,
And so the poor dog had none.

    She went to the baker's
    To buy him some bread,
    But when she came back
    The poor dog was dead.

    She went to the joiner's
    To buy him a coffin,
    But when she came back
    The poor dog was laughin'.

    She took a clean dish
    To get him some tripe,
    But when she came back
    He was smoking a pipe.

    She went to the alehouse
    To get him some beer,
    But when she came back
The dog sat in her chair.

    She went to the tavern
    For wine white and red,
    But when she came back
The dog stood on his head.

    She went to the hatter's
    To buy him a hat,
    But when she came back
    He was feeding the cat.

    She went to the barber's
    To buy him a wig,
    But when she came back
    He was dancing a jig.

    She went to the fruiterer's
    To buy him some fruit,
    But when she came back
    He was playing the flute.

    She went to the tailor's
    To buy him a coat,
    But when she came back
    He was riding a goat.

    She went to the cobbler's
    To buy him some shoes,
    But when she came back
    He was reading the news.

    She went to the sempster's
    To buy him some linen,
    But when she came back
    The dog was a-spinning.

    She went to the hosier's
    To buy him some hose,
    But when she came back
He was dressed in his clothes.

    The dame made a curtsy,
    The dog made a bow,
    The dame said, "Your servant,"
    The dog said, "Bow-wow".

I just can not wrap my hands around this. God use to talk to his people, send angels to guide them. Sent his son to die on the cross. We are in a world now that has people destroying it self at a near nuclear level. Human rights are an all time low across the globe. There are many countries the enforce slavery still and prostitution trafficking in person. Where is God to stop this... My pastor once told me it is our job to spread Christianity and go on missions to help save lives... I refuse to believe that it is our job to change opinions of foreign countries. How can the pressure of peoples humanity and lives be put on us? It likes God said if Christians do not spread Christianity I will just allow this to happen

no, it's actually about love.. God just sees homosexuality as a sin.. but loves the individuals as his children.

It's like this.. picture your child doing something that you told them not to do. You still love your child (of course), but you do not appreciate their disobedience.

Since you're a Christian Id like to see the new testament verse that says homosexuality is a sin.

    Thanks

    romans 1:27-30

    27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;

last part cracks me up.. way to end a pretty epic list

I guess you could split hairs over whether this is a clear representation of a new testament sin, either way, all sin is 100% paid for, including homo sin.

    Romans 1:26
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

"vile affections." The word vile in this verse is Strong's #819 atimia, which means, "infamy, indignity, disgrace, dishonor, reproach, shame, vile."And so the things of which Paul is going to speak, are things that are: infamous, indignant, disgraceful, dishonorable, reproachable, shameful, and vile. Not a pretty picture; not a dissertation on godly virtue and morality.

Yes, I always thought that verse was backwards looking, sort of explaining how we got here....

I suppose I should have asked where Jesus said so

Good analogy. I know we all should be miserable according to the good book, but gays should be made to be more miserable?

So it's the people that teach gods word that misconstrue it ? And the whole god hates fags thing is just jibberish, then.

Never mind all the other stuff like forbidding us to eat shrimps, lobsters and crabs Cause I think we're all guilty of that one. And speaking of crabs, how come bringing home a whore for your wife isn't a sin. Because she loved his son ? By that rationale, how come it's not okay for two men or two women to love eachother.

And I'm not slamming anyone's belief system, so I'm glad no one took it that way.

I Just have too many questions.

God is love, so he doesn't hate "fags" or anyone for that matter.. that's just the westboro baptist church (they dont represent christians)

gays should not be made to be miserable by christians, they are miserable enough already. It is our job to love them and embrace them as sons and daughters of God and pray that they reject their sinful lifestyle. We are all sinners though.

could you elaborate on the bolded part? As we have discussed earlier, a lot has been lost in translation from the original hebrew.

Welcome to America where the foundation of our nation doesnt exist anymore. All the rules and beliefs just get hacked way at with the passage of time. This isnt America the badass country that everyone used to fear. Its America the country you can come too, cry about something and get what you want.

Are you a minister or a preacher or something ?

Sure, didn't jesus allegedly marry mary magdalene ? Or was he asexual ?

I realise I'm just a godless heathen, but I don't think its right to say god is love but he just hates everything you represent and stand for.

God damn, most of you are stupid. The rest are too rapped up in your horseshit beliefs to read a story and extract from it what actually happened.

So, for you, the people that I still love despite the fact that you aren't very bright, I'll summarize the story.

Dan Cathy: All of supporters of gay marriage are arrogant liberal pricks!
Thomas Menino: Fuck off you bible beating lunatic!

    THE END!

There is no free speech issue anywhere in this story. If you want to be the figurehead of your company, don't go around spouting hate towards specific groups of people, or you will blackball yourself from areas where those people are accepted.
    Fucking Determined!
