Losing weight can be difficult, and while many people try to lose weight through dieting and exercise, they often quit because it is too hard. In many cases, a person quits a diet because it is too hard to follow, or they quit exercising because it?s too exhausting. Finding a balanced approach to weight loss is often the key to losing weight for the average person.

Losing weight is simple in theory. If you consume fewer calories than your body uses each day, then you will lose weight. It does sound simple, but as anyone who has tried to lose weight can attest, it?s much harder than it sounds The best method to lose weight is to find a balance between the calories you consume, and the calories your body uses. With the exception of water, almost everything you eat and drink has calories Your body needs calories for energy.

and everything you do with your body requires at least a little energy. Your body burns calories in order to produce the energy it needs. If you consume more calories than your body uses, the excess calories are stored as fat cells for future use. On the other hand, if your body needs more calories than you consume, then your body burns some of those stored fat calories for energy. And if you burn enough excess calories, then you will lose weight.

You have 3 basic choices if you want to lose weight:

1) Reduce Calorie Intake - You will lose weight if you reduce the amount of calories you consume during the day to less than your body uses for energy.
Most people reduce their daily calorie intake by following a diet. You may have to make a significant decrease in your calorie intake if you have a lot of weight to lose. People usually have trouble sticking with diets that require significant drops in calorie intake.

2) Increase Calorie Use - Your body will be forced to use some of its stored fat calories for energy if you increase the amount of calories your body uses to more than the amount of calories you consume. When you do that, you will lose weight. Most people trying to lose weight follow an exercise routine to burn their excess calories. People who are significantly overweight often find it difficult to follow an exercise program that will burn enough calories to lose more than a token amount of weight.

3) Balance Calorie Intake and Use -Balanced approach to weight loss is to reduce daily calorie intake while simultaneously increasing the amount of calories the body bums each day. This can be done by following a moderate diet in conjunction with a moderate exercise program. The average person is more likely to lose weight if they follow a moderate approach to both diet and exercise. This is a balanced approach to weight loss, and the average person is more likely to stick with a balanced approach than they are with an extreme diet or exercise program.

A moderate diet does not starve you. Instead, it will guide you in reducing your calorie intake by avoiding fatty foods and limiting your portion size. A moderate exercise program may consist of 3 to 4 workouts per week lasting about 1 hour each. If you are out of shape, you will want to start out easy and slowly work your way up to a harder workout.

Losing weight is a lifetime commitment. You are in it for the long haul, so you do not want to burn out at the start by trying to follow an overzealous diet or exercise program. You can and will lose weight if you follow a balanced approach to limit your calorie intake through an easy to follow diet while simultaneously burning excess calories through a moderate exercise program.
