A supermarket in Copenhagen found 100kg of cocaine in place of the bananas they?d ordered.
Whenever you buy anything, there?s a small risk that you might not get exactly what you expected. Wrong colour, wrong size, an iPad that turns out to be an empty box ? these are all predictable problems.
But it?s pretty unclear how a shop in Copenhagen, Denmark who put in an order for bananas, somehow ended up with 100 kilos of the finest Columbian cocaine. Instead of shrugging and organising what would likely have been the best staff party the world has ever seen, they reported it to the police.
The Coop chain shop first noticed the mix-up whilst carrying the banana boxes into the store, some of which were mysteriously heavy. Opening them up, they found bags of white powder. After a presumably fierce debate over whether to report it or sell the lot and take a five-year holiday in the Caribbean on the profits, they turned it in. The police believe it is, in fact, cocaine, but haven?t 100% confirmed this. I don?t think there?s a huge amount of proof needed beyond ?white powder from Columbia? .
Police are trying to track down the banana sellers/ coke dealers in Columbia, but so far haven?t made any arrests. This actually isn?t an isolated case, as another shop, also in Copenhagen, was delivered some mystery white powder of their own on Wednesday.
No one is putting forward any theories as to how exactly this mix-up occurred. Surely a drug-exporting group that has a sideline selling bananas to Danish supermarkets would be more organised in keeping their exports separate? Or perhaps someone in Copenhagen made an enormous order of cocaine and is now wondering what the hell to do with thousands of bananas. Apparently you can get high from smoking the peel, so there?s always that.
