but no one can recite these from memory?

Chastity- Courage and boldness. Embracing of moral wholesomeness and achieving purity of thought through education and betterment.

Abstinence- Constant mindfulness of others and one's surroundings; practicing self-control, abstention, and moderation.

Liberality- Generosity. Willingness to give. A nobility of thought or actions.

Diligence- A zealous and careful nature in one's actions and work. Decisive work ethic. Budgeting one's time; monitoring one's own activities to guard against laziness.

Patience- Forbearance and endurance through moderation. Resolving conflicts peacefully, as opposed to resorting to violence. The ability to forgive; to show mercy to sinners.

Kindness- Charity, compassion, friendship, and sympathy without prejudice and for its own sake.

Humility- Modest behavior, selflessness, and the giving of respect. Giving credit where credit is due; not unfairly glorifying one's own self.Modest behavior, selflessness, and the giving of respect. Giving credit where credit is due; not unfairly glorifying one's own self.

politicians please take note. :coffee:

People do what is right in their own eyes without some type of moral compass.

2 Corinthians 7:*10*For godly sorrow produces repentance*leading*to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.*11*For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you,*what clearing of yourselves, what*indignation,*what fear,*what*vehement desire,*what zeal,*what*vindication! In all*things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

It looks to me as if you're implying that the 7 things you've posted are the seven deadly sins... which would be quite funny - they are actually the opposites.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned -- 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12

Religion is a nice facade for moral compass, and talking points, especially for politicians. Morality does not come from the Bible or any theological influence for that matter.

Are you asking why those behaviors are so popular or why the meme/concept is?

the 7 virtues just crossed my mind and i couldn't think of them all. could you? the seven sins are easy.

I like to keep a balance of both, you can have too much patience, chastity, greed, etc

Just think you are so humble and patient and kind that you let everyone cut in line at the post office and then you don't mail your rent, now your landlord accuses you of sloth...

Too much of anything virtuous or sinful will fall out of balance and cause chaos....I sin as much as I am virtuous....I try to keep my sins aimed inward and my virtuosity aimed outward....

The book of Romans gives a good explanation in chapter 1.

Romans 1: 18*The wrath of God*is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,*19*since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.*20*For since the creation of the world God?s invisible qualities?his eternal power and divine nature?have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made,*so that people are without excuse.21*For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.22*Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools*23*and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images*made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.24*Therefore God gave them over*in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.25*They exchanged the truth about God for a lie,*and worshiped and served created things*rather than the Creator?who is forever praised.*Amen.26*Because of this, God gave them over*to shameful lusts.*Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.*27*In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.28*Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over*to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.*29*They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,30*slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;*31*they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love,no mercy.*32*Although they know God?s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve*of those who practice them.
