    Shoulder question

Yes, the best answer is to see a doctor. But, here is the question: my left shoulder has a bit of pain when rotating, rotating for doing rotator cuff movements to warm up the shoulder. Also it doesn't want to go through the range of motion initially, requiring I just grit my teeth and force it after which everything is mostly smooth and easily rotating. Any ideas as to how bad this is?

Bro I've beat the crap out of my shoulders and had a ton of pain. Went to a massage therapist and his first question was do you sleep with your arms up? I did I was doing the arm pillow, it's the source of the pain for me anyways. It's from staying in one unnatural position all night it somehow causes the shoulders to be damaged and not able to repair properly. I forced myself to sleep with my arms down now I have zero pain.

I do sleep with my arms up and wake with a bit of shoulder pain. Guess I'll try to adjust how I sleep first, see how that goes. If not it'll be off to the doctor.

for me it was my first rib being too high...im not even making that up...

some weird stretches (wall slides, door leans and the like) and an exercise/stretch where you put your shoulder under a weighted bar under a squat rack and lift the bar just off the rack then raise your arm...few good pops and its been fine ever since

I sent you a pm about it

I strained my rotator cuff awhile back and experienced the same thing you just described. It took more than two months before I could do shoulder presses. About a month and a half before I could bench press and slightly longer to incline. The key here is to work around the injury. Do not try to push through the pain or you could cause even greater damage and be out much longer. You will have to slowly work your way up to pressing any weight from perpendicular to your body to parallel.

Believe me it is no fun, but you must take it easy on an injury like this or you could have bad problems.

I get some serious shoulder pain from sleeping this way as well, but it's really the only way I can sleep. Sometimes it radiates through one entire side of my back. The doc was of little help. He told me to stop benching for a few months. :/

Anyone with shoulder pain should see a chiro and ART specialist. ART has been the most valuable tool in staying healthy.

So far changing my sleeping position is helping. Looked up some good instructionals from SheriV and so far seem to be on the road to recovery. When sleeping on my side I have part of my body supported with a body pillow to keep the weight off the shoulder on the bottom along with an improvised neck support in my pillow. Also trying to lay on my back, too. That'll take some getting used to. Also using some rotator cuff-specific exercises to get the blood flowing in the shoulder and strengthen them.
