Hi everyone, hope you had a nice Fourth of July. Just wondering when the optimal time for muscle recovery is after lifting? Ive read that most muscle recovery takes place 30 minutes immediately following lifting. Does it continue past that and for how long? Up to how many hours?

Everybody recovers differently. Depends on age, level of fitness and nutrition among many other factors. Body has to take time to rebuild the muscle fibers you break down during a workout. Whenever you reference an article that "you have read," please cite the source so we know what context your question derives from.

I'm with hunglo. Recovery takes days, not minutes. Protein synthesis elevates for hours which all depends on you.

"The majority of muscle recovery takes place within 30 minutes of physical activity" http://www.livestrong.com/article/438982-how-long-should-you-wait-after-exercise-to-drink-alcohol/

That article directly discusses the effects of alcohol immediately after lifting.... Bottom line is that right after you work out your body is in replenish mode. Its trying to shove nutrients back into your muscles that were depleted during the work out. And alcohol apparently is not good to consume immediately after lifting. Unfortunately it doesn't go into depth as to what the alcohol is actually doing to your muscles which would be helpful.

Im with the others as far as recovery. My muscles usually take days to recover and CNS is even longer.
