200 kg! that's 440 lbs. He is going to destroy his spinal discs. At his age they are already worn down.

He's 78 and lifting that kind of weight (and has been for years). That's evidence enough his body can handle those kind of stresses. He's stronger than most 40 year olds, and I wouldn't be surprised if his spine was in better shape.

Here is a video of a 75 year old deadlifting 605 with no gear. This video is 100% legitimate, I've trained at that gym for years and seen this guy perform. He's a local legend. Technically, he's lifting off a ~0.5 inch platform, giving him a very slight benefit in the lift. Still, this video is one of the most impressive feats of strength I've seen.

You are right Ernest has niether ach nor pain in his back and has trained for over 60 years allow he is relatively new to heavy deadlifting only this last few years but has trained heavy on over back exercises for decades. Here is a video of him doing sets of planks for 30s with 70kg on his back.

People could learn a thing or two from those old men. Taking progressions really slow. Take recovery when you need it. Program your training for the looonngggg run.

Here's a much higher quality video of Fred lifting 551 lbs in competition.
