    Does fasting help lose weight?

The main/basic formula of losing weight (body mass) is quite simple:
Body Mass Growth = Energy Intake - Energy Usage

In other words, if you use more energy than taking in energy by eating, your body mass growth will turn negative: you lose weight! Most diets are focused on this simple formula of eating less. And it?s true, according to the formula, eating less will decrease your body weight. So why did I say fasting doesn?t help losing weight?

    BECAUSE IT?S TEMPORARY

You will lose weight, but as soon as you finish (or quit) the diet/fasting program, you probably, like over 60% of the participants, will regain that weight just as fast as you lost it! In my new blog, I happen to have written an article about this: Why dieting doesn?t work, which goes a little bit more in depth.

One of the reasons, also explained in the blog, is that most diets do teach you how to lose weight, but NOT how to keep it that way!
    Thanks!

Intermittent fasting usually results in less calorie intake per day so that's how you loose weight.

Didn't read the post so this might be redundant but, fasting has some good benefits really.

Relieves stress on the gi, can help with nutrient partioning, insulin resistance.

    It's useful.

I don't think it's a sustainable or optimal way to set up your nutrition though

You must be at caloric deficit in order to lose fat/weight.

You can lose body fat by being at a caloric deficit, which can be done by:

1# Eat less than the calories you burn per day (calorie intake - (*BMR + expended calories))

2# Do some cardio that helps you burn more calories than you need in a day

3# Increase your BMR by weight training. This causes your basal metabolic rate to increase, which increases the amount of calories you burn at rest!

Doing intermittent fasting generally is easy and effective, with two caveats:

    1. Unless you were already on a low-carb diet, when you first start fasting you may run into carb-withdrawal symptoms. I generally recommend that you go to a low-carb diet first and work through the carb-withdrawal period. Thereafter, it will be much easier to start and try any sort of intermittent fasting regiment.

    2. There are anecdotal reports of women of child-bearing age having a tougher time staying on any sort of intermittent fasting regime. I certainly DO NOT recommend any sort of fasting regime if you're pregnant!

I personally find that, while intermittent fasting is effective, it is not any more so than being on my usual low-carb Paleo diet. The main benefit I got from my intermittent fasting experience is that now I know I can comfortably forgo a meal or two if it's convenient for the situation.
