    brain activity and calorie burning

Here's a peculiar question: does anybody know how many calories are burned during an hour of intense brain activity, such as solving calculus problems?

    Interesting question
IMO depends if you are stressed or not by the intense brain activity, exemple: If you sweat a lot, or if you stay moving or still, if you breath more, if you experience changes in your temperature.... do you get the point ? Calculate how much you burn is virtually impossible.

World-class chess players have been known to loose up to 10lbs per match.

If there is any correlation between brain activity and calorie expenditure, then that explains why our society is so FAT. There are too many stupid fuqs running around.

It is for real. They're not in a state of adrenal stress, so it's pure cognitive activity.

If I could get a nickel for every random act of stupidity I witness in the morning, I would have enough to buy lunch at noon.

I still don´t believe that a chess player can burn that much.

Interesting, but inconclusive. In other words, they attribute it to adrenaline and stress. I guess, no special research was done in that area. That's a shame..
