Is it true Magnesium affects metabolism of proteins and nucleic acids?

Pretty much anything may affect metabolism. I don´t think you should worry about it though or you are trying to take some more to speed it?
I was wondering if too much water may affect metabolism, since it may "destroy" gastric acids...
