I was trying to help a friend install a HP Photosmart Printer
over the phone....

There was no drivers for this thing in Windows (XP)
and I walked them thru downloading the install EXE from HP's
website...

But running the install didn't work -

Does anyone know a slick site where I can find the driver itself
or a program to extract the drivers from the EXE file for
this dumb proprietary HP crust???

This was pissing me off - :spaz:

driverguide.com

I would give you the login and password but I can't remember it and the email for it is at home.

Holy shit... What an ordeal!!! -

I downloaded something...

Hope it works tomorrow -

Use the drivers for 2000. Hit up hp's website for the XP drivers. I'm sure they have them.

They have a 6mb executable file that installs the printer... - :barf:

(and it fails 90% thru the install)

They don't have the drivers themselves

That driver site Manic linked had a .zip file containing all drivers for all
photosmart printers...

I'll just sort through them - :D

I've never used an hp device (unless PNP) that didn't have drivers... and I have supported alot of them....

Anyways printers are a bitch... i hate them...

Cool I'm a bigger nerd than Bigdyl, wait thats not so cool.

Unfortunately...

The manual install using the individual drivers failed this morning too - :yell:

That printer is doomed!

fails how?

Goes thru the entire install...

And then says...

"Unable to complete install,
do you want to cancel or restart system"

Then if you say restart... it does... and there's nothing there...

And if you say cancel... It says... "you must restart now to save the changes"

It SUX!

sounds like a registry problem.

do a Google search for "fosi" and on that site you will find a program called TweakNow PowerPack 2006, download, install and run the deepscan registry option, delete all "safe to delete" items, reboot and try the install again.

What if you just download the free RegCleaner from Tweaknow and keep the rest of that junk out?

You noobs use tools to fix registry problems? I'd rather go through the registry and check each key and subkey, analyzing all string, DWORD and binary values for inconsistentcies.

Bigdyl has his registry written on his jeans in washable marker everytime he washes them he has to rewrite the whole thing, it passes the weekends faster for him.

You are the funniest mod of any forum I have ever been a part of.

You know what, I think I had to install the same drivers for that printer on my bosses home computer, and it was a bitch to figure out...

I cant remember where I got the drivers, because I tried several ones as well that didnt work, Ill try and find the ones I used again...but in the mean time, good luck man

Exactly. I had this exact problem and the it turned out to be the permissions for the registery entries. I had to manually change the permissions to all them to be edited and bingo...it worked.

Nope the drivers from HP were no good!!!! -

I found some older obsoleted drivers for a "Deskjet" 1215
(not Photosmart1215)

And they worked perfectly...
Didn't even put up a fight!?! - :wtf:

Stupid HP! - :pissed:
